I think it may be the kind of work that you do too. It seems his work is well suited to his system. He can manage his own tasks, and the actual complexity of the work is stored in other systems and documents (like research papers).

You might want to try iso week numbers. Every week starts on Monday and is always 7 days. Gives you quite a granular time reference but not too fine like days.

Another interesting rule: when margin/padding is a percentage, it is always a percentage of the width, never the height. This makes sense, CSS layout is computed with logical rules/programming. I think the “illogical” reputation c

Why not use a MobX state class, then just write to state.cache_date? The state is in the parent lexical scope of the components, so no prop drilling or providers. I used to use events just like this, but once the app gets bigger it’s hard t

I think it’s a few things: - CPU features and system calls. Native code can leverage specific CPU features to gain performance. It has access to files and the network via OS system calls. Code compiled to WASM runs inside the WASM sandbox.

The reasons I sometimes use grid over flex: - You can align things in 2D space, not just along a single axis (like flex). Great for the top level layout of a site/UI. - You can have white space. I often create white space (empty grid c

I wonder if it is possible an animal can edit its own DNA based on things it observed with its senses in the environment. Eg Beetle observes kin dying via termite melee, encodes a potential solution in the DNA for the next generation.

A nice use of async generators is when you have an API with paginated results. The generator function keeps track of the current page. This allows you to use a `for await` loop which is quite concise. https://developer.mozilla.or

I often use vanilla esbuild installed via NPM. I feel like this build step would still work in 5 to 10 years: - esbuild is compiled into a single binary for each target system so has minimal dependencies. - NPM makes the version immutable,

I recently released ‘lilo’, a CLI that downloads your GCP logs to a SQLite DB. It works best when you are logging structured data in the form of JSON lines though, so you can query the JSON structure. https://github.com/emad
