Imagine a really simple game where there are only 2 moves: saying 1 and saying 0. The player who first says 1 wins. So of course the player who has the first turn will in practice always win, but when both players move randomly it's 50

While sociopaths can plan ruthlessly they're not necessarily more longterm oriented than non-sociopaths (since they bore more easily I would even expect them to tend to be less longterm oriented). So I consider it highly unlikely that

In the case that bitcoin succeeds we shouldn't expect it to be a smooth ascend. After the dot-com bubble it too seemed like we had seen peak internet. A bunch of people underestimated how hard it is to do something useful with bitcoin,

I love to solve interesting problems as much as any hacker, but software businesses are about helping people and when people are having trouble using their computer then that is part of the job. I think it's worth to spend 1% of your w

Since turing completness implies that you can write an interpreter for any other programming language you can do it in python in at least as many ways as there are programming languages where you can do it.

There could be a thousand people on hn who follow the same strategy, it's not that unlikely that it works for one of them and having it work for him makes it more likely that he writes about it.

The distinction I'm drawing is that Linus Torvalds' insults are so obvious and over the top that they are a greater risk to his reputation than to the feelings of the insulted. Whereas with genuine meanness one says things that a.

When the iPad is just laying around you can turn of the screen, the cpu, and the gpu, you can't turn of the ram. So while the power consumption of the ram might be negligible when the iPad is in use, it might be the majority when it is
