Thanks, I forgot about crystal. Now we just need Crystal on Rails :) It would force out some of the magic for sure, but that may be a good thing.

Yes, rails is very pragmatic – it includes a lot of what you need, so you don't end up reinventing the wheel. I like the philosophy still, and the third-part libs (gems) are top-notch. The problem I have with it now is that I am growin

Important to point out Elixir as well, which is touted as a "more modern" way to write code that runs on the Erlang VM (so you get the same concurrency features, etc.)

I already commented on this, but have you tried Colloquy for Mac? http://colloquy.info

For Mac, Colloquy is quite good: http://colloquy.info Works well, and is a native app that fits well into the general ecosystem.

The modern developer's curse... We get better at choosing tools, but worse at building them.

Nice – what a simple, elegant solution. Like the others are saying, sometimes there's no need to reach for the heavy toolbox... How did you measure the effectiveness of having the walkthrough on the front-page? Did you (or did you thin

Nice! Active Storage is a welcome addition, as file uploads are used in probably 90% of apps... Here are the full docs, for anyone interested: http://edgeguides.rubyonrails.org/active_storage_overview.ht... Worth noting is

That's really neat! With my tongue somewhat-in-cheek, I wanted to point you that you may want to be careful with that sample pic of the Eiffel Tower at night! See: https://petapixel.com/2017/10/14/photos-

The problem with this is that many people have that thing out every other song, recording video, and blinding me.

Knowing Jack White, not necessarily. He's all about authenticity, and being in the moment. Mobiles (for me) tend to ruin this at a live show.

Maybe, but he was a bit of an idealist and has strong thoughts about how people should and how society should be structured. And the resources to make a noticeable change. HAve you heard of Fordlandia? https://en.wikipedia.org&#x

Ehh, I use Safari as my main browser (it feels more "native" than Chrome & FF, has seemingly lower CPU usage than Chrome, and is WAY better for the battery), and I rarely suffer for it. Once in a while there is a site that doe

IMO it's a good "first game", but after playing for a while and with someone of similar skill and experience, the strategy is less varied than Catan. The benefit of Carcassonne is you can play with just two people.

This is kind of the answer that I expected, doing some web dev myself. It's sad, isn't it? One would think we would be solving _different_ problems 20 years later...

Quite impressive for 1998! As someone who's been doing it for so long, what are your feelings about where web tech currently is, and where it is headed? Did you expect it to be farther along at this point? Replaced entirely?
