Every one of them had a history of their kids having an adverse reaction to vaccines, you mean? That's quite a different circle than I've swam in. The anti-vaxxers I've known all adopt their beliefs based on some quasi-religi

Bankruptcy isn’t supposed to be punitive. A company clearing up the books and then being able to generate a profit again in the future is better for creditors than destroying the company completely.

From what this description sounds like, the foreground pigment would only remain at the forefront so long as a charge was applied. Doesn't this defeat the energy savings of eInk in that once you have updated the display it doesn't

It’s so bad that I can’t understand why LINE is only popular in Asia. It has all the good parts of WhatsApp plus a bunch of silly goodies like stickers, open groups, mobile payments, etc. Businesses have “official” accounts that can be oper

So, in your opinion, the world would be better off today if textiles were still manufactured by hand, by highly skilled artisans? I’m not necessarily a fan of Forever 21 throwaway fast fashion, but I like being able to buy a shirt without i

Luddites were opposed to advances in the textile industry, like automated looms. This does not strike me as a technology that made life worse in the long run. Affordable access to decent quality clothing for most of the worlds population so

Taiwan hasn’t been integrated with mainland China since the Qing Dynasty. It goes further than unfinished business in 1949. Korea and Vietnam also used to be integrated with ‘China’. The Taiwanese have had plenty of time to forge their own

First of all, there is no ‘reunite’ because Taiwan has never been united with the PRC. It has been governed by the Republic of China, which predates PRC by many decades, since Japan’s defeat in WWII and subsequent surrender of its colonies.

Many people absolutely do believe that abortion is state-sanctioned murder and in fact there have been terror attacks against providers [1]. The ones that aren’t carrying out terrorism like this still believe that clinics and doctors are co

Latin isn’t some neutral communication protocol the entire would or could easily adopt. Why not Classical Chinese? More people spoke that and it also underpins numerous modern languages.

Maybe back in the 70s. I have KMT friends who openly say that there’s no likelihood of unification with mainland China. For the most part they like the status quo, they love their Chinese cultural heritage, and don’t really care that it’s c

To a large degree, KMT supporters don’t even want unification. They’re happy with a de facto independent ROC. Only a disappearing fringe consider themselves to be a province of China in 2021.

I tried scavenging expensive brands of clothes from Goodwill to sell to a consignment shop. I wasted bus fare, only sold one pair of jeans, and ended up with a bag full of clothes that didn’t fit. 2/10 don’t recommend.

Thanks. Your comment feels like the most important one here. I know I’m kind of self-diagnosing in a folksy way by finding a diet that works for me, and that’s probably not a good idea if I do have celiac’s. I’m gonna see if I can find a do
