Actually he wrote the Rust version first, so you're wrong jumping to conclusions. I'm not trying to say Go is faster than Rust, it's usually slower. But there are always exceptions to the rule. The Go code, on the other hand,

Because different programs, implemented differently, run at different speeds... I'm saying the performance of Go can sometimes be surprisingly fast. Not that it's magic.

You'd need to change malloc too so it doesn't do extra work. You could do it. Go obviously isn't going to be faster than well written C. But sometimes you can be surprised.

For a script like this your be surprised. If you don't do too much allocation, the garbage collector need not run. In fact it's common to disable it at the start. Now you can allocate much faster than C because you never clean up

Yeah, I don't like that method for encoding variable length integers. I usually use something I came up with years ago where the low 2 or 3 bits are the length - 1 in bytes. It's more compact and can be serialized/deserialize

Protobuf was the first major project I was aware of that uses zigzag encoding for integers. They then encode those integers using the typical 7 bit encoding scheme where the msb indicates there's another byte following. I'm sure t

I see it the same way. Semi nomadic bands of a couple hundred people without permanent structures is "not much in the way of civilization".

All of that is pretty cool, but it's nothing compared to what the Greeks accomplished over 2000 years earlier. Or the Romans, or the Chinese, or the Egyptians, or the Incas, etc. The Native Americans were downright primitive by compari

I've never heard of a binance debit card before, that's very interesting. Don't you feel like you're getting screwed by the conversion lately? Bitcoin is so volatile to use as a currency.

Cryptocurrency isn't very useful as a currency, so it doesn't compete with fiat currencies. You can't use it to buy things, apart from illegal things. The exceptions are fringe uses only.

I think we disagree on the definition of "a lot". Were there even any permanent settlements on the Canadian prairies? Most of the natives were nomadic.
