I did this a while back and was astounded at what a difference it made. Especially the blue lights. I keep a packet of these on-hand and I'm always finding new ones.

People see batteries as "cheap and disposable". The price tag of $15 for 4 batteries is a one-time hit that most people in the US* don't want to take. You and I both know they will save money over time, and yes, it's muc

I think the point of the story is that his son used the process instead of panicking. It’s easy to say he said the wrong thing, but compared with a panicked phone call, it’s pretty good. A process like this helps override the natural respon

I love HN and UX articles. Every time this comes up, the thread is full of smart people disagreeing with these principles. The reason these need to be written down in the first place is that they can be counter-intuitive.

The original version of Android, on the T-Mobile G1 / HTC Dream, had a bug where all characters were sent to the command line as root. I restarted my friend's phone, typed `telnetd` and was able to telnet into the phone. A surpris

I’m from New Zealand. It’s staggering how many people in the US will repeat what I say back to me in a British accent. It’s hard to be annoyed because they’re “just having fun” but my god does it get old. Fortunately I can do a bit of Calif
