This is the original source of the video: https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/14631 They also have some older visualizations that are similar. It's hard to tell, but it looks like they may have been based on lower resolution da

I assume he must be using the Linnstrument in MIDI 1.0 mode; I don't think the MPC supports MPE. It would be really cool if it did, though. (A friend of mine has been working on a fork of the Linnstrument firmware to add native suppo

I don't own a Linnstrument, but I know a couple people who have them and they all seem pretty impressed with it. If you want something less expensive, you might take a look at the Roli Lightpad Block. It's kind of like a miniatur

No and yes. GME was overpriced for a bit, but I think that was just a natural consequence of the shorts getting too greedy and putting themselves into an untenable position. Basically, the shorts told the market "please take all my mon

I'd be curious to know what evidence there is that a lot of the original shorts never covered their positions and are still waiting for the price to collapse. Or in other words, why is he confident that the squeeze has no yet squozen.

Weirdly enough, the food safety of urushiol was the topic of this recent and heavily discussed HN post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40399224 I can't say I have any desire to try it myself.

Interesting bit of trivia: the Great Lakes are connected to the Mississippi watershed by a canal, and there is a section of the canal that is electrified to discourage fish from crossing to the other side. https://www.youtube.com

Impractical compared to what? The U.S. burns about 4 million barrels of gasoline and about the same amount of diesel per day, mostly just pushing ground vehicles around. That sort of works, but I wouldn't call it practical in the lon

I believe AAC is really popular in Europe too (which I suppose could just be considered another form of concrete, but it provides decent insulation, making it more suitable to colder climates).

That's an option, though I think the amount of time cars spend at stop lights is so highly variable that it'd be hard to make that practical. Also, in-town driving is usually short range anyways. For that, having a 100 mile or e

I think the point they were making is that a suitable technology to deliver power to a moving vehicle has been around a long time, not that everyone should get rid of their cars and use trolleys. If we combine a modern EV with 100 year old

Fast charge speeds make electrified highways a more viable option. There are some projects in Europe using overhead lines (for trucks) or power rails embedded in slots in the road surface (usable by cars or trucks) so that vehicles can rec

That's effectively just per-note pitch bend -- which is great to have, but it's still kind of problematic to only have 128 unique notes you can individually toggle on and off or otherwise control on keyboards that have more than 1

MPE is very useful if you want real time per-note expression and pitch control. (Basically, the less like a piano your controller is, the more useful MPE becomes.) It's possible to do that in plain MIDI 1.0 by using a separate channel

I think the Lumatone uses MIDI 2.0, but I haven't actually seen one of those in person. I'm working on my own microtonal MIDI controller, and for now it makes more sense to just use MPE. Maybe I'll support MIDI 2.0 eventuall

CAN bus would probably fix the latency/bandwidth issues with serial MIDI, and it side-steps the device/host problem and the short cable problem with USB. I'm in favor. (I'm actually working on a MIDI controller. It has

It's great that it's an open standard, but I feel like the MIDI Association is kind of dropping the ball on openness. You have to register with midi.org just to read the specs. That's not a huge hardship, but it's kind

One of the things I like about modular is that the v/octave CV standard imposes no assumptions on what kind of scale you're using. 12-tone equal temperament is pretty easy to use, but there's nothing forcing you to that scal

That makes me wonder how often one runs across a synth that doesn't support running status. I'm working on a MIDI controller myself, and that's a thing I probably ought to enable if I want the lowest latency. It seems the st
