Nostalgia is important. But I wouldn't agree with a statement that things are worse today than they used to be. JS with something like codepen.io is an excellent zero-install, write-whatever environment kids and adults can both enjoy.

Ah, PAIP... it's such a wonderful book! I highly recommend aspiring programmers to read it even if they don't care about Lisp or AI; the sheer amount of common programming wisdom in this book is priceless.

My blog is decently high-traffic and has been static/Pelican for several years. After using Disqus for a while I decided to drop comments entirely because they're more trouble than they're worth. A quick write up about it --

Funny coincidence - I'm just rereading this book now, and I think I like it more than the first time (~11 years ago). Getting older makes me appreciate Steinbeck even more. But I'm not entirely sure about his discussion of the wor

What caught my eye is that in Hubei province, which we all imagine as a zombie apocalypse now, only ~110 out of every 100,000 got infected, and at this point the new infection rate is going down. Which is quite amazing, given that the virus

I'm curious - what you feel is specifically the barrier? Which parts of your Node project you want to port to Go and don't because you don't know where to put them?

pycparser is actually from ~2008 :-) [ http://eli.thegreenplace.net/2008/11/15/pycparser-v10-is-out ], but it was probably less easily discoverable in those days - it was initially in SVN and the first release

Nice article, but unfortunate hyperbole: climbs one of the potential candidates for the world's tallest tree At 330 feet it's hardly a match for the world's tallest trees. California redwoods routinely clock 370 feet a

Reading good history books really helps. It's amazing how hard and terrible life was for 95% of the world's population just 150 years ago.
