And that's extremely harmful. In theory we have democracies. In practice, if you have the capital, you get to decide for what products and services the world's resources are used for.

In reality, even if I provide a better product than Salesforce, they will outcompete me by their ad-buying power.

Why would it be impossible to start a business? You would still be able to list your business in mediums where potential buyers willingly go and search for products and services. If anything, it would level the playing field, paying more fo

I actually think so, yes, the world would be better off with everything you listed happening. When we used to pay for newspapers, the informational value of the news was a lot higher, news and news-like social media posts were not the prima

Exactly. I hate seeing ads when I do not want to, and I love going out and buying a furniture catalogue. The difference should be obvious.

Free speech does not mean you get to yell at me. In the same way, banning ads where they are shown to users without their consent would not mean violation of free speech.

Yes but the amount of that happening is nowhere near enough to justify the ad-world we are living in.

Absolutely. The world would be vastly better off without 2 things: - Ads. Lower quality products/services perform better with more/better ads. - Venture Capital. Services out-compete others by using free money early on, killing th

This depends a bit on your company’s structure. My company, for e.g. is fairly flat, and my boss is more or less aware of everyone’s contributions in my team, he often works with them directly. I also work with my report’s reports directly

Not the same thing. Salesforce is a service provider, they can stop the service they provide. This developer could too. Salesforce should not be allowed to cite payment reasons though.

So if I'm a builder, can I build a wall in front of your grocery store's door if you did not pay me, as long as I do not lie and I do not break in?

It did not, all the automatic washes are there. I can see the reason why people see it this way though. For £20, you can have 4-5 people getting your car into the best state it can be in under 20 minutes. I would even say it is a joy to wat

Would you mind telling me if you are a genuine person who lived in the UK, or at least have some knowledge of the country beyond recent tweets? Honestly I am shocked at the recent rise of anti-UK comments with horribly incorrect information

As a person who moved from a third world country to UK, this could not be further from the truth. Life in the UK, both economically and socially, is miles better than my previous 3rd world country (which is still in world top 20 GDP).

Because economic performance does not account for unsustainable consumption of natural resources as a cost. Say I have $1M in the bank with a $10K monthly income. I am spending $100K per month. What is wrong with me measuring my happiness b

I think the beauty of this quote is working more than its content. Most people, even when they do not sit down and think about it, follow one of the two career paths: - Some people will actively pursue the next logical progression (senior,

You are assuming: 1. Value created for other shareholders is a good thing 2. $ "value" directly translates to actual resources or services 3. These employees and customers would not get the same or more value elsewhere if Amazon d

I disagree. I think, as software developers, we also mostly speak to other software developers, and we like to share around AI fail stories, so we are biased to think that AI works for swe better than other areas... However, while I like us
