I think your point about the grift is well-put. But I disagree with your comment about YouTube. I think YouTube recommendations work extremely well, and I only see videos that are related to the 5-6 topics I am exploring on YouTube in the p

People passing cynical comments at Google need to understand that at a big co like Google, something like this doesn't 'just happen'. It probably happened because some passionate L6/L7 engineer wanted to do it and pushed

It's extra funny coz most of the top American LLM products have censorship stuffed to their gills.

Sure. Would you agree to making arrest a protected category in the US so that it can't be used for decision making? Coz employers, potential spouses, or heck even potential friends aren't going to share your loft ideals.

I've read lots of bizarre stuff on HN but this one really takes the cake. I'm not even going to argue coz something tells me it's going to be futile.

Except now you end up with folks who probably ran some analysis or submitted some code changes getting thousands of citations on Google Scholar for DeepSeek.

Congratulations! Just curious, usually being purchased by a Private Equity firm spells a death knell for the company. Of course at the right price it makes sense that you wanted to sell it away, but what are your thoughts about what will ha

Usually most engineers have some slack time and can pick things up to fix. The problem is not in them doing that. The issues arrises in one of two things— [1] They either use the fact that they are fixing that thing as an excuse to not work

I think we should. This sort of hustling is exactly why most of the internet is now completely unreadable. I didn't see the original post but if I had, I'd have probably flagged it for the clickbait content-less title.

Agreed in general, but is it reasonable to say to people living in multi-million dollar houses on some of the world's most coveted real estate that they are should assume the risks of it? Or move?

So you agree that when companies want to truly give a customized experience to their customers, they would get on a call with them? I guess we are on the same page then.

A 100K car is a commodity product with very limited customization. If you don't like the car, the manufacturer is not going to make a new one for you personally. A large SaaS customer is the opposite.

What am I presuming? Most social media platforms let you have post-level privacy settings. If a kid wants to post something that they don't want their parents to see they can exclude them from seeing the post

Varies. What I have seen happening often is that many teams end up with a mix of very tenured people (who are strong contributors and who are sticking around for whatever reasons), and new hires who are too early in the role to be properly

I've seen a wide spectrum in that. There are those that only wheel out the mind-numbing Youtube videos as a last resort, but I have seen other parents where the kid basically never has dinner without staring at a screen.

It's understandable that in an organization that hasn't tightened its screws on employees, you will be able to find 5% low performers. But do you expect to find 5% low performers even after 5 iterations of these firings? Like even

Emergency calls often come from people NOT in your contacts. That's why you provide emergency contacts on forms. If something goes wrong at work for example, someone from the office would call, not your spouse themselves.

I presume you are an emergency contact for some people? Maybe a spouse, or a kid? Or even a friend? What's your contingency for when they are lying bleeding somewhere and someone can't reach you since they are not on your contact

No, the act of raising a kid itself gives people purpose, so it's not a pyramid scheme by any means, but let's not let facts come in the way of a zinger of a one-liner I guess?
