I'd assume it means that they don't give you a set number of vacation days, but instead trust you to take vacations when you want, for how long you want, as long as you're not taking unfair advantage of their policy.

Oxford and Cambridge can be a little strange about the degrees they award, almost entirely due to tradition. Undergraduate degrees almost all confer a BA at Oxford and they don't award BSci or (I think) BEng so reading a STEM subject would

It really depends where in London you are as well. Where I am (N London, 25 mins on the Tube from Moorgate or the west end, so not exactly far from town) it's quiet enough that I can hear owls at night and only the occasional car or plane.

I'd argue that C# didn't become an interesting and enjoyable language until it gained generics. Generics certainly aren't essential to a language, but once you're used to them it does feel a touch chafing not to have them, as well as it fee

If you're hiring in London, I'd be keen to find out more - any chance you could drop me an e-mail and point me in the right direction? Thanks.

From my experience (financial technology, very hard to find finance jobs in London without going through recruiters), the main qualities that a good recruiter has is that they're willing to take time to get to know you, they're willing to a

Everything I've read about Modafinil suggests that it's not addictive - for everything being Wikipedia along with some other sites which I don't recall off the top of my head (it was about six months ago when I did any research about it). I

A hat-tip for mentioning Keldon's RFTG AI. It's surprisingly brutal and even against good players it wins a good proportion of games. It does though show the downside of the machine learning and neural net approach (it uses a trained neural

Quite, boarders :) I think I rushed forward far too quickly and ended up in a universe where I was outclassed and then had a little oxygen related mishap and it all went downhill from there!

Using Facebook's messenger app requires you to know someone in way which just having their phone number doesn't. For example, if I'm going to go on a date with someone and we've swapped numbers that's enough for us to talk by SMS/iMessage/W

I'd suspect that it can be helpful because it distracts you from thinking about other things, and if it's a show you're familiar with (or something where you don't need to pay too much attention) then it doesn't require much active effort f

Lulu? At least that's the only place I've specifically bought a PDF - then I found out that it's wrapped in some horrible Adobe DRM (if there are any ways to remove this, I'd love to know). I don't begrudge the money, I just wish I could re

I've read my charts as well, they're made up of a mix of facts, intuition and conjecture. The later two being things which computers aren't very good at. Medicine isn't magic, but it's also more than a checklist which gives you a definitive

I'm always somewhat leery about these sort of predictions since to my mind they seem to miss that being a doctor is often more than just making diagnoses and deciding on a treatment - it's also about having a relationship with the patient,

Don't forget number 4 - sheer hubris on the part of people who think that just because they've been to a doctor that they know what a doctor does.

In London at least, you pay half price for public transport if you're 16-18 (and free buses if you're in education) and a reduced price if you're 18+ and in education. Being neither of those, I get to pay a hell of a lot more! I'm glad I've

The Libyan case doesn't really apply - the suspected gunman was a diplomat and a Libyan national and there's a whole extra set of legal issues involved that don't apply to someone seeking asylum in an embassy for a non-political crime.

It isn't Ecuadorian territory, it's still British territory. UK law allows the UK to declare that it won't abide by the convention that embassies enjoy special legal status in law.

It's not an act of war - it's, at worst, a violation of a convention. An embassy/consulate/mission is the territory of the host country and not, as is commonly thought, sovereign to the country who's located in it.
