that ifixit article is an AI slop puff piece. Thinkpads have good repairability, few people would debate that. They are not perfect and the ifixit "review" itself acknowledges that the wifi antenna is soldered, hence not repairabl

the form factor is a problem. Have you ACTUALLY tried using an ipad as a laptop for more than a few minutes? It is top-heavy and falls over all the time. Even if you solve that problem, you now have multiple devices that you must keep charg

fossil fuels were a proxy for energy. China continues to show the world that energy independence can come via electricity that you generate within your borders, and that it can be cheaper than importing foreign oil.

This only works if you can see two vehicles ahead. Too many SUVs and pickup trucks are too high and have terrible visibility around them.

India's airport "security" is one of the best examples of underemployment and security "theatre". The needless repetition and duplication of tasks achieves little actual "security" and is more a jobs progr

The techbro cult is filled to bursting with greedy, narcissistic people who are wholly willing to ignore evil because they expect to be the next dispensers of said evil. You just responded to one of them.

not having door handles in an obvious location is such a subjective "feature" that people have been killed in fires because of the door handle placement. I've lost count of the number of times i've seen tesla drivers &qu

right, but airbags, seatbelts, etc. are not internet connected. That's the critical distinction. I do not want the risks that come with my car connecting to the internet. A much more reasonable ask would be for your car's systems

Even those models still include a 12 V battery. The point stands - the traction battery is not a replacement and larger energy source in any car.

there are no disagreements about the fact that any electric is FAR more efficient than any combustion car.

why do you want your car to contact emergency services? the people around you can do that just fine and very reliably. How on earth did we survive as a species before our cars could make automated phone calls?

you are mistaken. Not a single EV or hybrid car uses power directly from the traction battery for the 12 V system.

That’s completely valid but the problem for me is the fact that you do not control the internet connection in these cars. A camera does not need an internet connection to monitor the driver.

This is a bit like claiming that a flat head screwdriver can sort of work with a Philips head screw… until it strips the head, you can’t see it and you don’t know how to fix it.

Toronto and Vancouver have completely different climates. Toronto regularly has ten days per year where the high temperature is below -15 C. Even cold climate heat pumps struggle at those temperatures. I would know, i have one.

Methane has lots of value in colder climates, especially much of Canada. Methane is cheap and does not lose heating capacity as temperature falls. Across most of Canada, the median construction year for a typical house is in the 1980. Half
