I really enjoy writing code in Nim. The move to the new memory management system turns it into a true systems-language (comparable to C++ + SharedPtr's or Rust + ARC's everywhere). I've been working on a multi-threaded pure

Thanks y'all for the context. I was mainly going on the context from that one slashdot link. If he waited too long to sell and only got a ~$1 million that could quickly become $500k after taxes, especially in CA. Just another case of o

Given ESR was very wealthy by most any standards, it seems very disingenuous to list himself as an LBIP. His need “high”. Seriously did he waste his fortune in which case I don’t feel bad for him or want to support his wasteful ways. Altern

There's two VSCode vim plugins, one a native one and the other actually uses neovim. They're both pretty good. The main downside is that VSCode plugin can take some time to startup. I use the native one as it's a little less

Carrying the remainder microcents as a bill seems overkill and not necessarily correct. Accounting regulations and accepted practices have well established rules on rounding, like bankers rounding (1). You could probably treat the extra mic

I actually sorta think unencrypted email has been a boon for society as both corporations and government agencies have left paper trails that helped expose their misdeeds later.

How is that a counter example? Seems like another example of “professional managers” coming in and screwing up a company. The first Boeing CEOs were from Boeing and were steeped in Boeings engineering culture and valued that expertise. Late

Though this argument falls apart with evidence that CEOs of big firms do need to deeply understand their companies domain. It may work to a degree, but doesn’t seem to coincide with the most valuable companies. It’s why when Intel was floun

You should add Nim to the list! There's a few implementations, though I'm not sure how complete they are. As others point out they're often used as ways to learn a language. Fun writeup: https://itwasscience.com&#x

What's interesting to me is that if you adjust the average salary in the 80's for inflation and productivity gains it'd be close to what (non-FAANG) devs make now. As in the "high salaries" of tech workers is just w
