Great! Just got an account with them and set up NodeJS in 2 minutes. Love that there is month to month payment and that you can change the plan. The control panel is very nice. Next PHP 5.5...

Mobile first is a pattern for responsive design where you start with the lowest common denominator, the phone, and make sure the experience works and then you enhance it as the resolution goes up. Personally, I do it the other way around. M

I'd say if you already master JavaScript and jQuery then Backbone is the obvious first choice. It's simple but very flexible, more than any of the others. The community is huge and there are many plugins. There is also Marionette that will

Have you considered PHP? That would be the cheapest alternative, and there are more MVC frameworks for PHP than there are for all other platforms (probably combined). There are many templating solutions as well, but PHP is already a templat

Exactly. Don't expect your HTML to be perfectly indented unless you're writing that HTML yourself, but most people don't, an Amazon surely doesn't. The HTML is generated server side.

In my personal experience the best way to learn how the stack works is to use the stack even if you don't know how it all works yet. You'll pick up pieces here and there and you'll eventually have your "aha!" moment and everything falls int

How about http://get-simple.info/ ? It works similar to WordPress but it's just a simple CMS.

Personally I don't use any of those frameworks, in my opinion they restrict too much. I'm fine with SASS + Compass or Stylus + Nib plus a grid system, typically The Semantic Grid which has versions for all common pre-processors. Every proje

I understand why people praise these frameworks but in my case The Semantic Grid [1] + HTML5 Boilerplate [2] + Nib [3] is all I need to get started with any web project. I first prototype in vector and once I have the general wireframes I s

Programming is about solving problems. Is it too late to start solving problems? No. It just takes dedication and perseverance. The learning curve is exponential so the first few months will be slow and confusing, but once you understand th

Have you tried Inkscape? It's been working great for me, from the wireframes to the ui elements, artwork, logos, etc... And it's open source!

Did you know `length` is falsy? no need to compare to zero: if ($('div').length) You can even do: if ($('div')[0]) That's even shorter than using the "most useful plugin ever".

In JavaScript you can extend any native object as well if that's what you're looking for. I find prototypes very useful.

Mmmm... this seems irrelevant. I think OP is asking if it uses WordPress as a platform not the actual server technology behind it. WordPress.org doesn't provide hosting btw.

I agree that for designers in some parts of the world 99designs is very profitable but IMO the time the client wastes on filtering hundreds of bad logos would be better invested in working with a designer and improving upon a concept follow

If you're serious about your business, I would advice against contest sites such as 99designs. I sometimes participate in there out of pure boredom and to be honest I wouldn't buy my own logos. The problem with these sites is quality. The l
