I agree. I think that there are all kinds of lessons to be learned from the Opera experiment, which is why I asked the question.

It would be an interesting investigation into why Chrome and Firefox have done so well in growth and Opera (a quite nice browser) never seems to have done well.

This is a great idea, I wish more mobile browsers had something like this.

The similarities between cults and Apple (with Jobs at the helm) is pretty well studied and written about. The good news is that people who buy Apple products actually get something of value for their money -- so it's far less sinister.

duck duck go is rapidly becoming a new goto search engine. It hasn't quite replaced google, but it's farther along in doing so than any other engine.

Why not? If <canvas> is being used as a drop-in replacement for Flash, why wouldn't it just be used in exactly the same ways? There's nothing special about canvas that would make it less prone to abuse.

People don't like hypocrites. Like it or not, the Apple brand is strongly associate with Jobs. Even here, on HN, an Apple friendly site, many people have announced an end to their support for Apple products (or at least it's giving them som

A good strategy might be to go ahead and make flash work on the Apple devices. Being able to demonstrate that the limitation is purely political and not technological would be helpful for people that don't understand what's going on. Plus

I think Apple's behavior towards Adobe (and by extension the end-users) has been pretty piss poor. Jobs' pretend "rationalizations" are also rather poor. However, I agree with this blog post. Flash is going the way of the past, HTML5 is

It's a fascinating combination of good points and utter rubbish, but mostly rubbish. The twisted hypocritical logic here is almost entirely devoid of the introspection I would expect from Jobs. More important, if that Jobs felt the need to

You would be very surprised at how common it is. It's a pretty big problem with new companies started by people who've never been burnt by that.

I think 2 years is pretty much okay. The first 6 months is learning the organization, the second 6 is putting that into action and trying to make it work. If it's working stay another year and see. If not, move along.
