Yep, total minimum cost of all curves is what I did. I did it in Matlab, something I don't know much about at all, so it is definitely not optimized.

We implemented a seam carving algo in our computer vision course. We found "perfect" (minimum cost) seams, so the algo was very slow. It's great that more research has gone into faster (although perhaps not as theoretically "perfect") algor

I mean "politics" in the sense that the MIT license is concise, unlike the GPL.

I use the MIT license for all my projects because it's simple and sensible. I want to code and not worry about the politics. The MIT license gives me that.

I can understand Google's reasoning. I doubt people browsing the Arch Linux website are going to click on the ads. Google probably pays Arch Linux per impression, so Google and the advertiser are losing money. And what's Google to do, tell

I read this book while I was on vacation (on a beautiful beach). It's surprisingly approachable; best explanation of relativity I've found so far. Granted, it was written by Einstein himself.

I think what the article is saying is that if Linux or Mac OS X becomes more used, then you will begin to see viruses pop up on those platforms. Of course, I would argue that it's harder to find/write/distribute exploits for a unix system t

What an interesting problem. Unfortunately, the problem is not the anti-virus software, but a general lack of technological knowledge, which is expected for a developing country. Moving to a "more secure" OS (i.e. Linux) would be a good sol

I write pseudocode on paper before I implement anything, and it has helped me tremendously. In fact, I think programming on paper encourages nonlinear programming. You can DRAW! Use lines and arrows to code blocks. Sure, it might get messy,

I agree, if you can program on paper, you can program on anything. Paper programming forces you to slow down and think. I'm a CS student the University of Texas, and quite a few of our professors, especially at the entry level programming c

I love Amit's page. A LOT of online tutorials on A* and other algorithms teach wrong theory (especially on inadmissible heuristics), but Amit knows what he's talking about.

I use pygame every day, so I'm pretty excited about this new update. Great work, pygame team.

This architecture may sound ridiculous now, but I'm glad researchers are attempting to redefine how a computer should work. The most troubling thing I see about Fleet is the difficulty of programming on it. That is, unlearning what we alrea

A great move. 0 A.D. has been hyped for years and years, and with what seems like a dwindling user base (who can wait 8+ years?), open sourcing 0 A.D. will give them more coverage and momentum. Hopefully some new developers will join the te

Interesting idea, but I personally do not trust Twitter data for analyzing sentiments, mostly because of the problem stated in the article: we often don't really know (or worse, misunderstand) the tweeter's true opinion. I prefer good old-f

What's the point of this article? It's as if the author wrote it just because he had to write something, much like how the talkative guy talks about the most useless things just for the sake of talking.

I've been skimming through Falnagan's "Ruby Programming Language" to see if I should spend the time to learn Ruby. Their presentation is similar to K&R, with the exception of nonexistent practice problems, which I think is what made K&#
