I notice a pattern in all articles about BASH. Some people say it should die. Others praise its ubiquity and versatility at handling certain tasks. Of course, both sides are right. From my point of view, BASH will never disappear, because i

I can't help but say this: your last paragraph makes cats sound fucking bad-ass (which they are).

Even if you don't want to break conventions, you might do it by accident. If you don't have a compiler (or a static checker of some sort), there's no one there to keep you consistent.

This looks at first sight like a cross between Python and LISP without parentheses (not saying that in a bad way). I'm actually glad that they choose this syntax, because a lot of people get hung up on the parentheses. Have you used th

I'm glad to see more mind-share for static type checking in the Python community. At the moment, types aren't as popular in the Python world as they are in the JavaScript world where you can find TypeScript type definitions for mo

Interesting. I write TypeScript in PyCharm and I get feedback as soon as I write (PyCharm performs save automatically). I don't know how they implemented it that it's so fast.

I can confirm the part about feeling isolated after working remotely for 7 years. I try to compensate by going to co-working spaces or cafes and working from there. Another thing that doesn't help my situation is that I'm mostly w

Think of buzzwords as familiar faces for the readers. Sure, you can overdo it and make a buzzword soup, but a few buzzword can give the reader a quick idea of the product.

I know the article is about Common Lisp, but I have a question about Racket, Typed Racket specifically. Can anyone say if types and Lisp play well together? Are there any success stories?

I wonder: would there be any negative side-effects on the cows? Another way of putting it: is methane production in the gut of the cow a consequence of a useful process or is it something the cows can live without? Another question to ponde

For Algebra and Calculus have you tried Khan Academy? Their only downside is that they don't apply the concepts enough to real-world problems, but I found Sal's explanations clear enough. I also liked http://www.mathsis

I agree, because I'm on this path myself and have been for 200 days. I started by brushing up on my algebra and now I've reached integrals in AP Calculus AB.

Thank you for saying this. I've been learning math from Khan Academy for the last 200 days. I've reached calculus and I feel more and more the need for examples of how to apply the math that I'm learning to truly understand w

Do you know any books or websites that provide this information? I also feel more inspired and motivated when I know what problem they were trying to solve with that particular piece of mathematics.

How does "spend all of your time on whatever is meaningful in your life" mean "never have any fun"? Or you mean leisure activities like watching a game or going for coffee?

Thank you for answering. I'm not interested to work in the US at the moment. I just wanted to make sure the restriction exists as I understood it.

How was it career suicide if it had been going on for so long and no one did anything? To be clear, I can't blame the people who fired him. They probably felt relief that they could finally stop working with him. As the article said, w

I'm using Mithril with TypeScript. It's a great combo. All my Mithril views are stateless and TypeScript makes sure I pass down properly the arguments to the view. It feels almost like I'm writing Elm. Almost.

WebAssembly is a work in progress. I think they had their first release some time ago, but I don't know how long it will be before it's safe for languages to target it for compilation.
