It's a shame it took 6 months of terrible PR for them to make these changes which actually do sound like they will be good for drivers. Can't help feeling like it would have taken relatively minimal effort to do these things in t

Another day, another negative Uber story. They've totally lost control of the narrative about all this stuff.

What a great company, always feel like they have good products, good sales, and helpful employees. Never regretted buying something from REI.

The problem with 50% savings on transportation prices is that it might only be temporary. Uber might have a _worse_ business model than a traditional taxi company albeit with a better app. There's a pretty long series of articles abo

I think that's exactly right. A lot of people were caught up by the PR and convenience of calling a cab from their phone. Tech is full of endless praise of companies including Uber as if they could never do anything wrong. Most peo

People definitely want to watch Uber burn as some have forever, but something seems to have shifted. I've been seeing facebook ads for Uber engineering for the last 1-2 years but recently looking at the comments on them they're 1

I'm using algo ( https://github.com/trailofbits/algo ) on an AWS instance, easy to set up and provides configuration across devices. Did find my iPhone struggling to use data sometimes when connecting to the VPN ov

How many times in your career have you needed to implement bubble sort without the ability to google it? In my experience I can say never and imagine that's what other people would say too. I don't think the point is that we shoul

Nothing really surprising here though. Tech (and the world) has always had a problem with sexism. Uber is particularly egregious but given the long history of quotes from the CEO is it any surprise that this is their culture? Writing was

From the comments: 'This response from Musk comes across as "when someone has a complaint, attempt to discredit them instead of responding to said complaints," which is just deflection. If Tesla feels that these complaints ar

Seems like Uber didn't really do anything wrong here other than fail on their messaging. Perhaps worth asking why so many people assumed they would be doing the wrong thing though and had little faith in Kalanick's explanations.

It is annoying, I've been using https://www.eff.org/privacybadger from the EFF to help with this and other online tracking. I just disable cookies or block the parts that track your article counts on various news sites

Seems like the headline should read "In the Shopping Cart of a Food Stamp Household: Slightly More Soda Than the National Average." I wonder what the distribution of money spent on soda is by income level. My guess would be that

I haven't seen that particular project before, it would solve the problem for changes to the local database but I don't think it's a solution for jobs that talk to external web services. Unless I'm missing something?

+1 on that question, I'd be very interested in that as well. My guess would be that since Sidekiq is thread-based rather than process-based it wouldn't have to deal with the issue of all processes receiving the signal at the same

Yeah it tends to be from unresponsive external web services that crop up every once in a while. Having a couple of jobs that fail that way isn't the end of the world for us event if we don't retry them. Yes, the situation you
