I kinda agree. Actually what I wanted to say is I see where you are coming from but I disagree that my proposal would get rid of its main feature. I just want some way to have easy defaults for new users. I wouldn't propose to remove a

We gave Zulip (and Mattermost, Element/Matrix, Rocket Chat etc) a try when our company was looking for self hosted alternatives to Slack. Zulip seemed like technically the most polished product. Smooth and easy get-running experience (

It's indeed not a list of hashes but (as I said) a set of hashes. Usuaully the size of the set is static and determined when creating the bloom filter (how many bits in the bitmap). The hashes are not full blown hashes like a sha1 sum

Bloom filters explained in a single HN comment: They are an efficient implementation of a Set that contains hashes of the elements. bloomfilter.add("foo") will internally add hash("foo") to the Set bloomfilter.has("

Matomo will probably run circles around this tool because it actually stores data in a structured format that makes is optimized. This software might grind to a halt pretty quickly. Being written in Go is all fine and will help with handlin

A click on the "db" folder will answer the question. It's storing the data in local csv files. It's neither crash proof (can corrupt files) nor usable for high traffic or bigger amounts of data. They hint at an "ent

You don't need NFTs to distribute anything amongst holders. You can use normal tokens for that already. And tokens have the advantage that they can be devided into various amounts which afaik you can't do with NFTs. In theory you

Small addition to avoid confusion: the purpose of STUN is kind of the opposite of TURN in this context. TURN will tunnel the traffic through the server and the clients don't need to know each others real IP addresses. STUN on the other

Yes filesystems are another big important part when it comes to the topic of data consistency. I'm not aware of a project similar to Jepsen for filesystems but there have been research papers like the one presented in this page that ex

I'd be interested in the write amplification since Redpanda went pretty low level in the IO layer. How do you guarantee atomic writes when virtually no disk provides guarantees other than on a page level which could result in destroyin

It is about permissions. You can autoplay video just fine with HTML5. But you can't do it with sound. And how would your WebAssembly decoded video play sound? Right, using the exact same HTML5 media elements. WebAssembly doesn't a

If your crypto code doesn't use constant time functions for timing attack sensitive stuff (like digest comparisons) then you have more serious problems already. Relying on HTTP or other noise is not a good idea.

We started with GeoDNS (e.g. AWS Route53) and later on added Anycast into the mix. The combination of these two is very powerful but I wouldn't recommend Anycast for projects without good network staff. For most, I think GeoDNS is good
