REST and JSON are inefficient and irritating to work with. Websocket with binary protocol like protobuf is much nicer. Even SOAP was much nicer because you could usually code generate a client from a WSDL.

The part they left out is that they most likely have full access to one of you or your employees laptops. They probably just used your own keys to access the server. Which means they probably have access to all your personal info.
