In the 1990s, a lot of desktop software was Windows-only, and used the Windows toolkit directly, so they supported the OS theming [1] including high-contrast options. Windows wasn't alone in providing this. Most desktop operating sys

This is true but depending on personal preference/perception and usecase it might not matter. If you really care about latency for twitchy old-school games, a MiSTer (or a real Amiga!) and CRT monitor would be ideal.

This is a Firefox bug which has been open for years and years with no fix. Try it with native apps like Finder or Terminal. Absolutely works for me on Big Sur.

To be fair, it's usually pretty awkward and feels bad though. It is often very easy to accidentally scroll a bit on the wheel while depressing the third button.

This feels pretty weird on macOS in a way I never realized, because I thought you were wrong but you're actually right -- you can slam the cursor right against the right edge of the screen and the scroll handle lights up and you can cl

At this point I think it is questionable whether the X16 will ever come out. There have been a lot of technical and supply issues, a lot of scope creep and drama in the community and there seems to have been no real significant progress upd

PC DOS diverged from MS-DOS from version 6, went to version 7, and then around the turn of the millennium had a final commercial release called PC DOS 2000 which was essentially PC DOS 7 with some y2k fixes and other little modernizations.

Right click -> Options -> Double size, just like in the original program :) That said, it doesn't seem to center the scaled version in the window in Firefox so it's not very usable.

You can buy it without RAM, without storage, without WiFi card, and without OS and sort out all those things yourself. It's still a laptop with all that entails, but everything that was reasonable to make configurable or swappable -- t

No it doesn't. Windows ME didn't just remove support for booting into real-mode. It removed support for VxD drivers. No, it really didn't. Windows ME supports VxD drivers just fine.

When Windows ME was released, it was little more than a reskin of Windows 98 that removed or disabled much of the 16 bit capabilities and support for the ISA architecture in favor of 32 bit and PCI. It couldn't be installed on most ex

No, it is possible to run 16 bit protected mode applications (i.e. Windows 3.x apps) under 64-bit "long mode". Microsoft explicitely chose to not support that -- with a few exceptions. In true Microsoft fashion, NTVDM on x86-64
