I know just what you mean, it looks absolutely ridiculous. I occasionally send coworkers very long vim macros just for the enjoyment of explaining how useful some 100-character line of gibberish is.

I made a more detailed post below, but I would think an alias to something like vim -c s/^/\\=@\* (or @\+ I'm not sure which register you'd need to use) would be your best bet for fast editing: it should let you open vim with text from your

I use the pentadactyl extension for firefox, and I've added the emacs hotkeys <C-a>, <C-e>, <C-n>, <C-p>, <C-f>, <C-b>, <M-f>, and <M-b> to insert mode so that I can at least m

The easiest thing to do here would likely be to make an alias that runs vim -c s/^/\\=@\* which opens vim with the text from "* on the first line. You could even add a mapping like gg"* yG:qa!<Cr> to yank the new text and close vim

I did find it strange that the post didn't even address that the allignment advice was contrary to PEP 8. That being said, I definintely find my_data = 3 your_data = 2 much easier to skim than my_data = 3 your_data = 2

I try very hard to follow PEP 8, but I have noticed some very nice python code(such as the setup portion of Peter Norvig's beautiful sudoku code http://norvig.com/sudoku.html ) that alligns equals signs using more than one space. I try

Only problem with ctrl-c is that it doesn't function exactly like escape(for example, if you're inserting text on multiple lines in visual block mode, ctrl-c will only insert the text on one line and cancel the command, whereas ctrl-[ or es

If you use KeyRemap4MacBook[1] you can map caps lock to Ctrl, but also map just tapping caps lock to escape. Be warned, the only problem with this set up is that it's so good that you'll have trouble using another one; I disabled it when

Unless I'm misunderstanding the purpose of your 'TwiddleCase' function, you can simply highlight the text that you want to flip and hit ~ to invert the case.

I found it particularly funny because it's not exactly a great drawing of a bear, so claiming that it's a kodiak bear is pretty absurd.

I use change space( https://github.com/sdsykes/Change-Space ) to get around this, but the fact that I can't have native 2-d spaces really bothers me. Change Space is good, but it does have a few bugs that wouldn't exist if Apple hadn't ins

I felt the same about number 3. [x in tweet.split() for x in wordlist] Seems better to me than map(lambda x: x in tweet.split(),wordlist) Although the natural thing for me to do would be [x for x in wordlist if x in tweet]

I agree with you: Spivak pronouns are definitely easy to understand. I just see getting more people to use them as key to having a standard third person gender neutral pronoun in English.

Spivak pronouns have all the benefits of a singular "they" with all the drawbacks of introducing a new set of pronouns into an established language . My experiences with programmers tell me that getting a large group of people to change s

I do this using firefox bookmarks/keywords using %s. For example, I use the bookmark http://www.reddit.com/r/%s with the keyword rdr so that I can just type "rdr programming" into the location bar to go to http://www.reddit.com/r/program
