I feel like per site notifications, or muting low priority feeds, should be table stakes?

No, in fact Linux recently decided to screw over the two hobbyists running itanium systems by not maintaining full feature compatibility in new kernels, for that architecture.

Time is required to be a senior engineer, but time does not _make_ you a senior engineer. You need time to accumulate experience. You need experience, time in the proverbial trenches, to be a senior engineer. You need to be doing different

If your code is that boilerplate you can do it by rote, you need to abstract it already. Or write a generator/snippet

Yes. Sometimes just chucking a print is more convenient. But yeah, debugger is your friend

Unit tests only tell you that a function isn't working, not what's happening. Convincing actual people to just throw a print statement in the middle of a method to see what something is doing, or what data it's seeing, can be

When moving someone from one macbook to another, i just rsync desktop/documents/downloads over. I've found migrating ~/library over is problematic even with built in migration assistant, especially if this is their third

If you’re not getting any better you are indeed in trouble.

If that was true why would we be told llms would replace us? Would us having already been replaced mean we weren’t working? Also this is kind of racist.

But no one is hyping the fact that Bob the mediocre coder is going to replace us.

Yeah, “Relatively” is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. I remember people with lax security and a tags that went to deletion endpoints… we all learned a lot back in the day.

Uh, no. I've seen the twitter posts saying llms will replace me. I've watched the youtube videos saying llms will code whole apps on one prompt, but are light on details or only show the most basic todo app from every tutorial. We

The data it’s trained on likely includes better answers when the original question was phrased politely. So we get better answers when we’re polite because those tokens are near better answers in the data.

I can do neither. McDonald’s is a system for delivering food fast and cheap at scale. It breaks down when making one burger. If you’re not a trained chef, you will not pump out Michelin star meals, even using the same recipe.

Why would it not like json? These models are supposed to be reasoning, that would imply it could reason that there's an error and fix it or interpret around it like a reasoning human could.

Would a prompt history even be useful? This is all non-deterministic. the same prompt could result in wildy different code?

That's not vibe coding though. Vibe coding is specifically pretending code doesn't exist, and just directing an LLM to do stuff... https://x.com/karpathy/status/1886192184808149383?lang=en

Because we're being told it is a perfect super intellegence, that it is going to replace senior engineers. The hype cycle is real, and worse than blockchain ever was. I'm sure llms will be able to code a full enterprise app about

7mb is a LOT of text. More than most epic fantasy novels. While surely the text fits, it’s all the stuff around it like rendering and layout that take the memory.

These models are supposed to be reasoning. Why would you need to do all that work? If I can teach it to an intern, why wouldn't a model that can reason be able to do that? Unless all the promises and hype are false...

So we're all agreeing here. It's ok to hide stuff from sight, but hiding stuff from sight isn't actually security and can't replace at the very least, having password protection.
