Right. Plus your KB identity will still have all of your other online identities vouching for it. So an attacker would need to commandeer a large fraction of your accounts in order to get people to trust the fraud.

Not to get into the weeds too much here, but a completed suicide has a lot to do with the speed/effectiveness of the tool in question. Almost nothing is as fast/effective for this as a gun. Plus, suicide is frequently attempted

This sounds like a lot of smoke and no fire to me. Are men having trouble finding jobs in tech because of their gender? Is Damore even having trouble finding a job in tech despite his claims that he’s the target of a witch hunt? Was there

Murderer? Accident? Clearly this is your story to tell and not mine, but those two words don’t usually go together. There’s probably a sense in which using the word “murderer” is technically correct, but it goes well against the grain of wh

First up, was I correct in my interpretation of your initial comment? Nothing else makes sense if we're not talking about the same thing. Second, I'm not suggesting that the threat posed by Flash wasn't ever a factor in any d

Sorry if I came across as condescending, that wasn’t my aim. It sounds like perhaps I misread your comment above and that maybe our respective arguments weren’t actually about the same thing. It’s easy to make too many assumptions about wha

I guess it’s ironic if you ignore the DRM part. Apple took two hardline positions on web tech and not everyone is playing by both of these rules. It kinda looks like a temporary lapse on the part of Spotify while they go through a transitio

I must be misreading you. It sounds like you’re saying that Apple’s reasoning for not supporting Flash on the iPhone was because “Flash portals” were competing with the iPhone App Store. Is that right? The iPhone was released in the summer

You get my upvote, because I respect your perspective and I agree in principle. But at its logical conclusion, this idea puts up some serious practical barriers. Even if you only use an OS that you’ve personally audited, and even if you’ve

Not that I think writing a feature-complete shell is “easy”, but pipes, specifically, were the main feature of this shell implementation (besides reading, forking, and executing).

I'm pretty sure the motivating factor is waterproofing. The more places where the insides of the phone need to connect to the outside, the harder it is to protect from water damage.

I’m not sure if you watched the video or read its description, but pipes are the focus of this implementation. He describes pipes as “the core of the UNIX shell” in the video. I suppose that is somewhat up for debate, but building complex t

Terminals are, generally, expected to behave like terminals, which brings along a host of legacy compatibility things about how keyboards used to work over the past 40 years. Not saying that’s an excuse, or that they shouldn’t try to, but b

It sounds like one thing you’re describing is a vicious-cycle in the world of startups. One where: 1. Founding/funding seems to encourage lying about mental state (financial incentive to say you’re doing great when you might not be) 2.

Most shells let you do some arbitrary work before/during the display of the prompt line (in Bash, you can use `PS1` and `PROMPT_COMMAND`). Some people then install special fonts that let them render these fancy “bar segment” things. [P

Yup, this is a typical “modern” way to get terminals over serial connections. For instance, my home server is headless, but I can use its onboard serial connection (via GNU screen) to manage it “remotely” even if, for whatever reason, it’s
