Girls and women are also a lot more vulnerable on the streets -- I met a 17-year-old who was routinely assaulted when she slept outside, who eventually took up sex work for the stable shelter.

Definitely -- I remember being in the crib, the toys I had in my nursery, and even the color of the lamp! (All verified later by asking my parents, all from before I was a year old)

I remember being surprised at people in Iceland using really American idioms. At one point I asked someone where he learned a particular idiom, he told me he was obsessed with the show "Friends".

Interesting, it looks like Australian law also forbids speech that is "reasonably likely, in all the circumstances, to offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate another person or a group of people". That's going a bit further than the "incit

Whenever I start to worry about this I remember that Canada has laws against hate speech http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_speech_laws_in_Canada but doesn't seem to have slipped down any slopes.

I've been wondering what the big deal is since these games just reminded me of Tycoons anyways, but you have a point with the "slot machine mechanics" bit...though the Tycoons could get pretty slot machiney. I think a lot of the backlash i

If anything, the kids may not care, but adults picking out toys for a little girl will feel more comfortable buying this. People are always happier if they feel their choices were more "customized" for the person they're buying for. Person

Me neither. My high school offered college scholarships for men going into nursing, and I've seen posts in women-oriented boards about how to attract more men to events. It doesn't seem crazy at all...
