I am split on this one. I grew up in Sunset Park, Brooklyn during the late 60s - 80s, and the sound of salsa, bongos, song, cars, and motorcycles in the summer sometimes upset my father especially when it went into the late hours. I loved i

Hah, the discount Tom Cruise, that's funny! Yeah, I saw it in 1984, so it's been a while. My mind is slipping. Navy Seals (1990) was Charlie Sheen. Could have been better with Tom Cruise!

Except if there ever is an incident, and something like those kids save your ass. I've watched many people intellectualize something, and then when it gets visceral, reach for the thing they repulsed or detested before. Sort of what ha

You're right. Charlie Sheen, not Tom Cruise. I was 20 when I saw it at the movies. My memory is not what it used to be, and I have the old habit of trying to actually write something without always using Google to back me up! Funny sto

It didn't seem to help Tom Cruise and Patrick Swayze in the 1984 movie Red Dawn ;) Interesting NATO is disbanded in that movie, and the harvest in the Ukraine suffers for some reason (blight? war?).

Chris, the work of you and others on Julia is nothing short of amazing. Thanks! I tried Julia when it first came out, and then picked it up again to replace my MATLAB habit, and I have not looked back. I can't wait until the sims.jl pa

I am hoping this also opens up more opportunity to leverage Lisp's symbolic powers. I had great fun with Structure and Interpretation of Classical Mechanics (SICM), and recently a paper on analyzing music using symbolic regression [0],

Has anyone used Ivy here? I am currently playing with Zig to replace my C habit, but these type of approaches always pique my interest with hopes of leveraging my C knowledge in a better manner. Since someone will ask: I tried Rust, but it

I agree, and from my math/APL bubble, let me have my succinct symbols. I invoke the famous Iverson 1979 Turing Award Lecture, "Notation as a Tool for Thought" [1]. If you are in ML and do math to some degree, learn the symbol

My late Uncle Vic taught me how to repair clocks and pocket watches when I was young. I let it go, and returned to re-learning it with this book. I still dream of completing my first, from scratch, pocket watch.
