It's an "it just works" technology that also goes very deep and solves a number of problems where the competing solutions are an order of magnitude more complex and/or expensive.

This is all too true. I come at this problem from the opposite end of the spectrum. I am no misanthrope by any stretch, but I have to actively engage in things that many others (especially the people who feel the need to blog about '

At first I was thinking "$4 for 14k plays sounds pretty good!", but then I did a little math. If I listen to a streaming service for 10 hours a week (seems like a plausible average?), that's about 800 songs per month. So I&

If a 5 year old child asks you if he will be killed by pirates (yes this has really happened to me), would you say no? If so, you're lying, but I don't think there is any "moral wallpaper" here, it's simply letting

Agree. "Agile" methologies are a great way for: 1. Good managers to manage new or mediocre engineers. 2. Good engineers to control new or mediocre managers. No system will completely mitigate bad managers or bad engineers, and if

I disagree. In the hands of a competent web designer, photoshop is still the most expressive tool available. I've been bouncing PSDs with a designer for the past couple of weeks and I want him being creative and making something beau

I can see that, I guess it's just going after a different use case than I was using it for (i.e. the decent designer-less site). It has no real value to me if I have to go through and style everything over again.

A very informative article, thanks for linking. However, his estimates for the energy required were very conservative, and even if these numbers don't work out with today's water prices, they do make sense at a certain point that

I don't put much stock in those who make claims like "the next world war will be over water", because we have a massive supply of water (the ocean) and a massive supply of energy (the sun) to power whatever we need to do to m

This is a neat device, but GPS would seal the deal for me. I've looked at Tagg ( http://www.pettracker.com/ ) which has it, but it isn't waterproof which a must for my Lab who loves to swim.

My gut tells me that SaaS is the wrong play here. Offering a hosted option is nice, but half of my projects will flat-out not use any third-party service as part of the dev environment, it all has to be self-hosted, and many of the other h

Standups are definitely status meetings, and there's nothing wrong with that. As someone else mentioned, it's the audience that matters. 5 or 6 good engineers and a clueful manager in a room are going to sync up and get back to work, usua

Not very reliably. AFAIK, the geographic resolution on phones GPS would not hold up to scrutiny if you were driving within 10-20% of the speed limit.

We've defined standards for humans that we find acceptable, in part because there is much that is implicit in the operator being a human. For example, a cop at an intersection, holding his hand up, then pointing left to redirect traffic

The key thing is that the government is not going to (and should not) get very deep into regulating/legalizing this tech until it actually works, which is fine. 2020 does seem more realistic for a mass market roll-out. So long as it's read
