I agree that push connections should be disabled. Maybe it can prompt you the first time you try to subscribe to one as to whether you're like to turn them on; this would annoy me personally, but also not break features by default.

Approximately 10-15 years ago I used an early Android app that synced contacts across multiple (local) accounts and deduplicated and merged them. It had Internet permission for some reason; on asking the developer why a dedicated contact ma

I tried out portmaster recently. Coming from rethinkdns on Android, I was far from impressed; it looks featured, but it's much harder to use. Opensnitch looks better but doesn't have the nice features to drill down connections (

Would be very nice if the wait-list included pricing, given that it's apparently here enough to have a sign-in link.

Better can be relative, too. If your app is native (desktop or not) and now efficient with ram than your website is, I'll download it and use that instead. My mother's computer has 16gb RAM and was ooming due to outlook and Goog

Medium is not one of the largest content providers anywhere, in any form that I'm aware of. There's no users sharing and reposting (arguably one of the drivers of network effects in modern social networking), no PSA, no apps or th

Presumably you need to pay raycast once for a setup operation while you need to pay constantly for copilot. Why wouldn't you advertise for someone who makes you more money at the same time as advertising for yourself?

The governments are both pretty terrible, but China has been far more violent to it's own citizens in recent times than the US has. The recent non-citizen hunts and unwise involvement in foreign affairs notwithstanding, the US doesn&#x

My "new" computer is a laptop with an 8th-gen i5 and 8 gb ram salvaged from the Windows 11-incompatibility heap (actually 3 of them, so I have 16gb in it). I installed Kubuntu on it and it runs extremely well. I can even install W

Depending on your hardware (SBC), FTP can also be several times faster than SFTP for transferring files over a LAN. Though I'll admit to having used other protocols like torrents for large files that had bad transfers or other issues (

You can do the reverse, too. Hook up a dial-up modem to your PC and you can send and receive faxes on it. The software is built-in, though you'll probably want to configure it not to receive faxes automatically on your landline unles

When you stop moderating input, that's when someone builds a fuse filesystem on top of it. We had those for discord (dsfs), twitterfs, redditfs, yt-media-storage, etc. It's also when someone starts using it to distribute malware,

If you give your kid a lighter and they proceed to set their clothing on fire, it's not zippo's fault. If you send them to watch TV and they switch to pay-per-view, it's not the TV manufacturer's fault, nor is it the net

Transition of power (peaceful or not) is not a necessary component of democracy. Nor are leaders (elected or not), representation, or power structures such as centralization of power. Pure democracy is also incredibly inefficient at scale.

This is how I mostly use my Windows PC: remote access from my Android tablet via ssh and rdp. My gripe is entirely different: Microsoft has turned to crap. RDP: Every time a native notification pops up, I get disconnected (usually the notif
