If your VPN is only being used for DNS queries, then they don't have much useful data there. I've recently seen instructions for setting this up on free cloud instances from AWS/Azure/etc. If the only traffic is DNS wr

WD MyCloud devices create a .wdmc directory in any folder that has images or videos. I've solved this issue at various times by adding a new file extension for mp4 files (mmp4, associate it with media player) until I changed apps to on

In windows and Linux you can still open hidden folders and files simply by typing the hidden path element into the file manager. You still won't see any hidden contents, but you don't need to type out the full path--just navigate

Using current technology in the ways we currently use it. Some of the things we take for granted were considered impossible less than a hundred years ago. Logging full packet data for later decryption is already feasible, and that's al

The problem with your solution is that the representatives we vote for don't include every combination of sides of every issue. You can vote for the best person regarding internet privacy, but they might have terrible views regarding w

I wish more companies would do this. I get that sdcards, headphones, etc are cheap and have low profit margins, but I've had eg Samsung ask for proof of purchase on an 8gb sdcard only a year after the model/product id was released

I did all my (non-school) reading for my first half of college on a Nintendo DSi, before I got a tablet. High resolution, large screen, good backlight, fast display refresh rate--all of these improve the experience, but none of them is requ

I really wish the publishers/distributors supported OPDS. Either add in a user/password prompt that's not to speed, or just put tokens in the URLs. I'd buy far more ebooks from any distributor willing to do this.

Overdrive, which is what most libraries I know of use, supports Kindle, Adobe, and it's open format (which IIRC cannot be downloaded and must be viewed in the browser/app one page at a time).

Any of the popular text-mode browser will do it, afaik (links, lynx, w3m) since it's already pretty much part of their functionality. Calibre might be able to do it, as well as exporting many other formats.

Firefox Premium is just branding, so far as I can tell. I can't imagine Mozilla charging for software. They might make software that's not useful without the service (like the VPN client), but the software itself is free.

No need to make it an open server. For applications that require a limited number of resources, you can implement a whitelist--only allow connections to certain IPs or addresses. Inspect the connections if you have to. For everything else?
