What’s up with the capitalisations? It reminds me of reading conspiracy geocities.

I expected to read some wild story about Entity Component Systems but was disappointed to find it’s about picking the correct AWS services.

GLTF does a pretty good job. It definitely doesn't cover everything, but it's a good scene descriptor.

I see people coming to Rust from all angles. It’s a nice sweet spot. I came to it from Haskell and on my team of three the other two devs came to Rust from C++. I can opine the motivation looks something like this: * From Haskell - looking

You can do with a sum type (enum) that is represented by a u32 (repr(u32)), or converts into one. Though I don’t know Ada so can’t speak to how accurately I’m creating the analogy.

In my experience corps doing pioneering work don’t always act as though they are pioneering.

Or they’re very senior in a pioneering domain that doesn’t have all these packages written. It really depends on what domain you are programming in.

I’ve used circuit hub for pcbs and it was around $40 for like 10. I didn’t have the parts placed and they were small boards but the service was great.

The last example looks a lot like Applicative from Haskell, of course it’s different, but it’s almost there for better or for worse.

Ah yes, indeed there are benefits that come from programming in Haskell that can be applied to JavaScript, but I think that without the compiler it’s very hard to guarantee success.

Efficient in what sense? Compared to how much energy it costs to get energy out over the lifetime of the mechanical device, or simply turning the fuel into energy?

It’s not that it’s good or bad - mutation can only happen in a monad (IO or ST or similar). The monad is the encapsulation and that encapsulation is enforced by the type checker. It’s actually quite liberating not having to worry about what

To make compiling easy, cargo will compile C sources (and more using build.rs), but of course that makes your Rust code dependent on compiling C code, and if your C build step isn’t ready for cross compilation then your Rust compile step ca

Jeez downvoters - just look at the definition of “functional language” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Functional_programming And then tell me Rust is _not_ those things.

The things that make rust “functional” are features like a type system that supports sum and product types and functions as typed values that can be passed around. It really is a functional language (in the original ML sense of the word) bu

I think a lot of this (to quote the Dude) “is just like, your opinion, man”. Haskell is great but it’s not for everybody. It really gets you thinking about software engineering in a different way. I wrote Haskell full time for five years, w

A sufficiently expressive (and safe) type system is Turing complete, and many languages have that. They don’t all feel ergonomic, but Haskell and Rust are pretty good. If you’re into it, you should check out Idris (lang) and Idris2. Both ve
