I make a decent living, way above median household income, but my wife and I rent in a dense urban center for the simple reason that even with our income we couldn't afford to own in this area. Even if we weren't paying student lo

I think the purpose is to try and prevent benchmarks being posted that are on improperly configured or optimized systems and therefore misleading, not to "hide" the performance characteristics of the database. That said, Oracle su

One thing this does seem to suggest is an explanation of why exercise encourages brain health. The lymphatic system only circulates well when the body is in movement, so exercise would help the lymphatic fluid circulate through the brain an

It's 10MB uncompressed because go compiles libraries statically in the binary. 10MB is not really a big lift, and static compilation makes binary distribution much simpler. I don't have any objection to packaging emacs with the OS

I don't regret adopting React Native for a big project, since I think we've been able to prototype and iterate much more quickly than we would if writing in Swift or Java, and it's enabled us to get webdevs up to speed on mo

I agree, for the most part, but then again, C also has no high-level concurrency primitives, and basically every server ever is written in C. You can use Grand Central Dispatch, and it works. It's not as wonderful as go routines and ch

If you switch to usb-c without a headphone port, then you've got to come out with two lines of headphones (actually, three, since they still make regular headphones). Also you ditch a whole ecosystem of peripherals, like the Square don

It looks like `new` instead of `malloc` and, what, `object`? But `printBox` takes object as an argument instead of binding it to `this` or `self` etc, so yeah, what's the point of this? Go, Rust and D exist, y'know.

And the tech stock market crashed in 2000-02. We're back on a rebound, especially in the past 5 years. Bubbles burst, it's literally the one reliable law of markets since the advent of joint stock companies.

Because markets move in cycles? We've had multiple crashes in the past 40 years, most recently in 2008. Markets always crash, it's what they do.

I find it weird to report on this like it's a race or competition. His net worth bump right now is entirely due to rash market speculation and the recent tech bubble. When the crash comes (and it will), AMZN could easily be down to $50

Containerization arose out of Linux namespaces. What you get is process segregation under the same kernel, like jails or chroots but more granual. So security, that's the answer.

Kalamata olives are left to ripen to a deep purple (not black) on the tree, and are cured like other olives (brine or oil). California olives start green, and the curing process turns them black. See https://www.youtube.com/
