Limited interest: most of the country views it as a child's sport, to be outgrown. There's not many places for a kid to just kick around the ball with friends, because it's hard to get to a field, you might have to reserve it

From "Bad Blood": they had a prototype called Gluebot which used a robot arm to do standard tests involving a pipette autonomously. However, their tests (using blood collected at Walgreens) were done on "hacked" (altered

I'm very skeptical, of course I'm not as smart or as informed as many other people so what I'm saying might not mean anything. 1) if the idea is to impart all of the kinetic energy needed to get into LEO at once, on the groun

I don't want to detract from the message of the article, but: > For example, an eater might search for udon, but end up ordering soba. In this case, the eater may have been looking for something similar to udon, such as soba and ram

I basically spent this entire weekend playing "Into the Breach" so I feel qualified to comment on that game being identified as "visually well-designed". Here's one great thing about ItB that was not discussed in th

I think the suggestions in the article are the victim of a lack of context, in a certain way. Suppose the code was "list.extend([1])" (Python). And the comment was "why didn't you just list.append(1)"? That would be

Agree with all of this except 4. "asking judgmental questions". While it's true that not all opinion is fact (uh oh -- 5. sarcasm) there is nothing out of line in asking "Why didn’t you just do ___ here?" How you ap

This is a great idea, and I have one suggestion: It can be kinda hard to see if two neighboring entities are the same in a given band (kbs, mbs, gbs), because you're looking for the absence of a difference of a pixel or two. Maybe if t

There's something horribly wrong with a system in which the doctor cannot readily tell you how much a procedure will cost. It's not like the doctor is building a new space rocket every time they do an appendectomy, or designing so

Do "smart" tap systems exist? Here's what I'm imagining: * instead of a tap being a valve that opens or closes, relieving or building pressure, a tap is a switch that signals.. * to the "smart manifold" that it

It's an LED on a tiny PCB with an inductive loop around it. One of the images in the gallery has a picture of it. The ultrasonic puffs of air keep it suspended.

I'm not that old, 33, but I think I recognize that I wasted a lot of my youth being paralyzed by the thought of failing, when really it is the most successful people who start out by failing. A lot. It is important to get comfortable w

I don't understand this viewpoint at all. There's a breathtaking amount of tutorials, Q/A (stackoverflow), forums, chats, that can get someone started with a fraction of the effort it took for me to learn programming 20 years

It's part of the continual corporate drive to push risks off the company and onto the employee. No self-respecting employee should do a take home exam, or do a "hack week", because every time you do, you normalize and reward

I would add to this, use a dumb but performant CDN. Cloudflare's Rocket Loader has rewritten working Javascript into broken Javascript for me. If I use Cloudflare I turn off all the gizmos to be sure.
