if doing startups, talking with other founders, hearing the stories that are never published, and reflecting on my own experiences has taught me anything, it's that you can't predict how the cards fall. Nothing ever goes 100% to plan, and

I really don't even see how anything they gave to the security researchers could remotely mean source code. The title's total flame bait

Worse than bad press is when no one's talking about it. Even if it's bad, people talking about it means people care enough to do so! engadget once called something I did outright 'crappy' right in the title of the article. guess who was mak

Sure, but also it's better to look for the common case (i.e. the 80%) and make sure that's fast. It's not always worth optimizing the uncommon case (like branch misses with a branch predictor).

Apple's been doing this for a long time. Plenty of developers that got started in the jailbroken space have since gotten developer licenses and moved to the app store. The economic incentives are much better at larger scales.

the first thing every kid needs to learn is opportunity cost. the second is very basic finance and how compounding interest works. after that a lot of the decision process will naturally fall into place by itself.

As much as we like to think journalists are doing public service, they are working for commercial organizations struggling to make money. One aspect of being informed is recognizing that news organizations are companies trying to make money

the face of journalism's changed since I was a kid; I've talked with plenty of journalists researching stories, and things like twitter posts and linkedin profiles are part of the landscape now. we as readers like to put much of the onus on

I never said it was bad, I just said I didn't like it. Given that i'm used to building up my views myself, doing it through a gui perplexes me. You'll note I said it's a great tool in my first post.

You can not (as in, you're straight up not allowed) to sell physical goods via Apple's in-app purchase. It's only for digital goods. You can sell physical goods through other payment systems though, that are not Apple's in-app stuff.

I'm tempted to say 150k is not a bold risk for this guy. Neither is 150k * 50. Small cost to expand your portfolio... and you just need one homerun.
