And now you understand why programmers need to be part of a Trade Union. Protection from retaliation and group negotiation on working conditions are brilliant for people who aren't as "important" as Bill.

If your co-worker is allergic to peanuts, are you going to moan that you're not allowed to bring in your famous peanut brittle? No. You're going to be sensible and realise that excluding people or risking them harm isn't nice

Twitter used to have a series of different coloured "Egg" avatars for new users. But, yes, this might be useful in enumeration attacks - but so is something like WebFinger. Good points to consider. Thanks!

My thinking was that it is one less HTTP request. Rather than call the WebFinger, process it, then call the avatar - this is a one-and-done request for the image itself.

That's a reasonable point. I wonder if returning a default avatar rather than a 404 would be a reasonable deterrent?

So, the nice thing is, this is optional. If you want to sign in with Twitter for everything - go ahead! If you want to create a new cloaked email for everything - you still can. Just like you advertise your website on your GitHub and your

That's a reasonable point. I was just modelling on how WebFinger works. A sufficiently secure hash might be sensible.

The nice thing about this is that it is optional. I am not the Internet Police; I can't force you to adopt this. But, take for example your Keybase URl https://keybase.io/kej - why can't all the services that you&

Four more than I want! It's the same argument for social sign in. Most people can't be bothered with the faff of typing in an email address and password, then clicking on their email to verify, then adding their name. So they clic

I've worked for two UK telcos. There is no technical measure which you can apply. Locking your SIM prevents someone from physically stealing the card and putting it in a different device - unless they know the PIN which protects it. Bu

You are not making a copy - because you are not able to identically reproduce it. And, if you are and you do, that's likely an infringement. Most jurisdictions say that, for example, you can't perform an in-copyright creative work

What I don't get about the Snap store is why there's no verified link back to a website? If you have the technical ability to create an app, you probably have the ability to upload something to /.well-known/ or to add a

My union membership is about £230 per year. That gets me unlimited legal support. How much does a typical employment attorney cost per hour?

It absolutely does not mean that. Unions help set minimum standards, not maximum ones. I've worked in private companies where the maximum comp is set by management and they do not allow individual negotiations. And I've worked in

It doesn't prevent someone getting laid off. It makes sure that the process is fair and legal. It ensures that at-risk individuals have a chance to apply for available internal roles. A Union can use their legal powers to enforce pro
