Supporting only one language is a very big limiting factor imho.

Those quotes added a lot of atmosphere to it (from techs). And also from secret projects. Those blurbs are so memorable...Not to mention the encounters with Planet! All those fancy sequels of Civ seem empty after playing SMAC.

I wonder when will they make a real sequel to Alpha Centauri. I think it is still the best Civilization game out there. For me Beyond Earth seemed like a bland reskin. In AC you could terraform, do social engineering and design your own uni

Content in Dwarf Fortress is generated. It does not make a difference when we talk about the term "content" whether it was written by hand or was generated by a function. The emergent behavior is the most interesting part of "

This is in stark contrast with Dwarf Fortress which has literally no graphics but indefinitely more rich in content. My favorite statement about No Man's Sky is: "One feet deep ocean".

After reading the first paragraph I still only have a vague concept what this wall of text is about. Can somebody summarize it with a TL;DR?

Why do you think that everybody is inspired from javascript tech? It is probably the other way around. For example there were very good build tools long before npm which are still used today and unmeasurably better (like Maven or Gradle).

I can say this for (nearly) any dynamic language like python or ruby. Your second statement is plain wrong however. Take clojure for example which compiles to java bytecode and javascript (cljs) seamlessly. You seem to be a victim of the Bl

Metro 4 was just finished a while ago in Budapest/Hungary and some of the stations look like maps from Quake 2. They are brutal.

The naming is very unfortunate since there is already an OSS software around with the same name: [0] and they clash now. [0][ https://hadoop.apache.org/docs/r2.7.2/hadoop-yarn/hadoop-yar... ]

True. Spotify is also a leaky abstraction. For example there were all albums of Atrium Carceri on Spotify and 6 of them were removed more than a year ago. I asked AC what happened and he told me that they are "reprinting" the old

I can second this. For example one of my favourite artists' work was so rare at some point in the past that it was only possible to get my hands on his work is to torrent it. Now we have Spotify and bandcamp so I can listen to whatever

Can you explain in layman's terms what a time crystal is? I'm not sure I understood it right. Is this like a RAM which has persistent state?

Frameworks are not the only form of abstraction. You should also not confuse frameworks with libs. They are kind of opposites. With a fw you comform to a rule imposed on you and have less work to do while using a lib you are free to do what

The code duplication is not necessarily the result of using two different languages. On the other hand you can use for example clojure for the whole stack (Clojure for backend ClojureScript for frontend).

You have actually. For example ClojureScript compiles to JS.

Stronger typing than clojure? You gotta check out clojure.spec which is built into the language itself.
