Okay, but builds can require additional python modules. Mesa requires Mako and won’t build without it.

Had to deal with this recently, Homebrew on macOS though. Meson build failed. Had to manually install Mako with pip, which also installed MarkupSafe. Then bitched that Homebrew (or Linuxbrew) will break in the future for some reason. So nex

Building X was already complex and annoying. While I hate autotools, I didn’t find Meson to be particularly better. If anything this is a lateral change. Instead of m4, shell, and makefiles, Meson has python, some python packages (managed w

I pronounce it maggot despite knowing the “proper” pronunciation. I don’t care—it is maggot and that’s that.

My contrarian view: I pronounce it maggot. I think Mag-it sounds weird. That said, I’ve financially backed Magits development (Kickstarter iirc) and I use it almost everyday, but I don’t do merges with it. I’ve had some large merges go real

Actually, I wish more projects had installable documentation. Obviously, I don't want WinHelp, but man pages, HTML, and PDFs easily installed to a discoverable place, yes please.

I think there's a huge amount of value in bringing more of the Linux and UNIX experience to the Mac. That way I can still use my iPhone and I can still us Logic and Pages, but I can run a window manager that I can modify and customize.

I'm always shocked to find major projects that use parser generators. A hand-written recursive descent parser is easier to write, read, understand, and modify. It's almost trivial to translate a language specification's gramm

I see a bunch of posts about the iPad being a "consume" only device and that's totally totally wrong. I've had an iPad since day one, generation one and took notes with an aftermarket stylus. I used Keynote and OmniGra

I downloaded a copy to keep handy, but my 30 year old Macintosh still works and has never needed to be repaired. It has survived 8 or 9 major moves and 3 different climates.

I love retrocomputing, but for whatever reason that font and color combo on my display is fuzzy and strains my eyes. I get the design aesthetic, but maybe a little modernization or deviation for readability might be in order.

I don't think its overstated. The web is broken and search especially so. Now days I look for curated list to find interesting webpages and topics. Google ruined itself years ago, or maybe "we" ruined it.
