I mean, a modern example might be the various companies open-sourcing LLMs (e.g. Meta). I don't think "public-mindedness" is exactly the right explanation, it's probably driven by strategic thinking... but then, maybe th

Fascinating! Thanks for sharing. I've done a bunch of thinking around how to organize things in dates, etc, and often wondered if I should be using week numbers. Never thought to look up if it's a common practice in any countries.

A lot of people are bothered by it. There's not much we can do about it yet - we've done what we can with the crude methods we have available to look around, but we're severely knowledge-and-tech limited in ways of checking.

I don't remember if I've ever thanked you for the dose or reality you bring to these discussions, but if not - thank you! Before I started reading your comments on bug bounty payouts I'd probably have made the typical thought

I think you're looking at this wrong. Security is hard. Incredibly hard. Unlike most things in business which are positive-sum, security isn't - it's adversarial. If we make companies pay huge civil fines for things that are

I usually read/listen to a lot of books, compared to most people, but not several hundred . And if you're reading Brandon Sanderson as part of that - wow! I'm envious :)

FWIW, A Desolation Called Peace is one of my favorite SF books I've read in the last 10 years. I really enjoy that series. I like Project Hail Mary, too, and it's certainly more popular because the author is far more well know

This seems like an interesting time to post this. With the rise of LLMs, Software development has changed more in the last two years than at any time I can previously recall. And I strongly suspect that's just the beginning. I believe

Firstly, this list is completely one-sided. If you actually think you're right, why not write something real? Do you honestly think this is a good representation of reality? It's like writing down a list of Allied attacks in WW2.
