How is there anywhere enough information in that query to know its about programming? I guess the difference is I don't expect DDG to know anything about the query (imagine talking to a random librarian vs your coworker). This example

Can we get some examples of searches from the "DDG is terrible" camp? I've been using DDG for 100% of my searches on laptop and phone for ~3 years without any complaint. I've never used the "pipe it through google&q

Also from the area, I get the sense that the Boston area is generally increasing in carbon efficiency (at least pre covid). There simply isn't space to build more/bigger highways into Boston, the only feasible way to expand capaci

Fun, but I think I hit the end of the stuff to build. Couple things would be nice: 1. Visual indications on all production structures of active work 2. Some way to incorporate travel time / people walking on roads 3. Sounds

100% in the same boat, finally coming back to a bit of personal game dev. Just do a little every day (or a few times a week). Try sketching a couple things. Play D&D or any other more creative game to learn design. You're wayyyy mo

CarPlay's UI is far better than any manufacturer I've seen so far. Using the same UI/UX as your smart phone is way more intuitive - and it'll keep pace with OS updates. I wouldn't buy a car _without_ CarPlay at this

First thing you do is email them a contract with a _reasonable_ consultant hourly rate. You literally handed them documentation in advance and they didn't bother to read or test it. Don't feel bad, don't get angry, get paid.

I've seen this repeatedly with Apple Maps. You consistently get a "simplest" (although not labelled as such), a "shortest distance" route, and a "fastest" route. I've consistently noticed Google Maps

Have you considered working in the US? Seems like we're perpetually in a shortage of good web devs (e.g. can do more than paste together frameworks and Wordpress sites)

Having lived in a dense suburb outside of Providence RI with a local pub just one large parking lot away, I can tell you: it sucks. Noise at all hours, drunks everywhere, broken glass, constant smell of cigarette smoke. Replace pub with &qu

I really wanted to like Signal and switch, but it seems to require a phone #. Are you OK with tying private conversations to an identifiable ID or did you find a work around?

Any advice on teaching this to junior engineers? Seems like folks with 3-5 years of experience keep trying to not only over-abstract but also keep re-inventing the wheel with abstractions (vs looking for existing libraries).

That is precisely the point of limited liability companies. We have decided, as a society, that we like the benefits of these over the risks. We could certainly have a discussion around scoping the limits to liability but the fundamental fa

IIRC, that's the one they used. This struck me as kinda crappy and anti-competitive. Perhaps this is too idealistic, but I would prefer a more transparent and open market for talent.

Agreed - repayment of the loan/bailout should be the contingency. Your business has wild post-COVID success? Great! Pay back your bailout and start issuing dividends! No moral hazard in returning capital in a successful business.

A key point missing is defining that criteria in advance. If your market economy rewards buybacks heavily and you didn't know it was a moral hazard, why should your company (and its employees & shareholders) suffer? I can see banni
