For audiobooks I tend to start the book off at 1x for the first few hours because it's hard to follow while they are establishing characters and environment when you speed it up. Once I have a feel for those I gradually speed up to 1.4

One odd thing I found while listening to conversational comedy podcasts at 1.5x was that I found them to be funnier. I believe it's because if the pause before someone says something very clever is short it makes it even more impressiv

Just an aside but you actually want to do the counterintuitive thing and speed up on washboardy roads (provided it is safe to do so). Higher speed means your vehicle won't have time to be pulled down into dips letting you ride smoothly

The reason that the standard stayed unchanged for so long after 2003 is that the committee had a misunderstanding about some ISO rule and thought they couldn't release new versions for some period of time. I can't remember the det

Effective Modern C++ is a great book but it is in no way an intro to anything. It keeps with tradition of exposing the warts in C++ that you should know about but the issues covered in the newest one are very complex compared to the previou

Boost, loki, and I'm sure others have a "flat" map which is just an array backed ordered map. Slower insertions than the red-black map but because of the cache locality it's much faster overall.

It seems to vary a lot by product. I had awful billing support on GCP (quite some time ago now so it might be better now like the Googler who replied to me last time I talked about it on HN said it would). Project Fi support has been fantas

It may be more expensive but hand-crafted, artisanal system administration is well worth it. The difference between it and cheap, factory produced system administration is night and day. Also, it's Local and Made In The USA so you are

Yeah, the 6P has a famously bad battery lifecycle. Many people's moderately aged phones just start shutting off even though it reports 30%+ battery remaining. Google has been pretty good about replacing them if you bought directly from

I hope this motivates Android Wear manufacturers to make a decent watch. Right now they are all pretty mediocre. You either get a fat sport watch with LTE or a less fat watch with very few compelling features. I just want NFC (for Android P
