The Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, and Xoom do too. It's used to speed up GPS fixing (knowing your altitude helps resolve your location more quickly). A Google employee said that he didn't believe the barometer in the Galaxy Nexus was weather

Signed-in reddit is one of the slowest sites I use. It is, however, very fast for what it is doing. I have no complaints about the speed, only wishful thinking.

For an unreasonable amount ($30-$40 per device). Looks good when they can say, "But we offered to license to them!" before they file the lawsuit.

Shouldn't Microsoft be getting the props in this case? Samsung makes great displays (they make the MBPr display too) but the OS is the limiting factor in actually running them at the native resolution.

Seems like it matches the situation of wanting to release your additions to a GPL codebase into the public domain. Doing that is perfectly fine[1]. It feels like a hole in the GPL for some reason though. [1] https://www.gnu.org/licenses/g

Surely they mean Burning Man 2013. Burning Man starts 6 days after this fundraiser ends and I don't seem much here to show they have anything even close to a working version.

During one of the press conferences Ravine mentioned they had hundreds of images of a single spot on the ground taken by MARDI, the descent camera, after it had landed and that a member of his team was working on using those to build a supe

People here are fixating too much on how he could have avoided receiving this overly harsh sentence. The article is trying to draw attention to the fact that the sentence itself is overly harsh, not that he could have gotten out of it had

Interesting but you aren't really answering his tablet specific question. Looking at the screenshots of this app it appears to just been blown up on the iPad. That's the very thing that people criticize Android apps for doing.

But there is an old greek proverb (Aristotle actually) that says "One swallow does not a summer make". What am I to make of this? I don't know who to trust anymore.

I was under the impression that the current iOS map app was created by Apple but used Google's API for data. I could be mistaken.

I'm starting to feel this is what is driving the Android fragmentation argument with some iOS users. iOS's design is much more dependent on Apple implementing core features and interactions (I suspect this is partly by design). The benefit

Something is definitely wrong with his particular phone. I don't have any of those problems either. If he's running a custom ROM he should find a better one or return to stock. If that's not the case, a warranty replacement is in order be

Flyby I can see limiting to the devices with the nicer GPU but the lack of turn-by-turn on older devices seems odd. My Droid had 3D turn-by-turn navigation when it was released and that was in October of 2009. I suspect Apple just didn't w

Good Calories, Bad Calories has over a hundred pages of citations in the back so it's at least well referenced. I have yet to read it though so I can't comment on the quality.

Does a pentile layout matter on a "retina display"? The pixels shouldn't be discernible at these resolutions. When the Galaxy Nexus came out there was a lot of confusion and argument about whether it was pentile or not. If you can't tell

You'd have to have some pretty tiny pockets to not have this phone fit. My Galaxy Nexus fits fine in my Levis or suit pants and even feels a lot smaller in my pocket than my Motorola Droid did due to being a lot thinner. Hell, my Galaxy Tab

I lived right next to one of the bridges they replaced on I-80 in Utah. They were replacing a big stretch of the freeway so they set up a "bridge farm" where they built seven bridges on stacked cargo containers and got them ready to go. T

Interestingly, the original C++ compilers were like CoffeeScript in that they'd compile to C source code. Walter Bright (now of D fame) wrote the first C++ compiler that compiled to machine code. I don't really see this as the approach goi

MythBusters covered this one in one of the earlier seasons. They couldn't produce any sort of effect even with unlikely high metal concentrations in the ink.
