Thanks for the detailed explanation! And also, thanks for the mention of Fictionwise! I was actually the dev manager for Fictionwise's entire eReader apps line (iPhone, Android, Mac, PC, Blackberry). I later moved to the Nook team after the

Question - why do you prefer the hard keys to the touchscreen page turns? BTW the non-touch model is still available, it has the hard keys.

Use Kindlegen ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000... ) Seriously. Calibre produces a very poor conversion. Kindlegen will retain much of the ePub fidelity.

Small nitpick - MD5 is not technically "encryption" From the article: " likely to be an inverse of your phones IMEI number with an MD5 encryption thrown on top" MD5 is a digest...not encryption

Really interesting psychology involved with pricing and how we deceive ourselves when it comes to prices and anchor points. I recommend Dan Ariely's work ( http://danariely.com/ ) - Predictably Irrational

Not racist, it's true. MySpace became a ghetto - of all sorts of colors and races. Twitter has been much of the same...

"Back when there weren't many people, or infrastructure" What time frame are you thinking of here? I'm not sure it is accurate - there was plenty of infrastructure and people in post WW2 Western US.

I was an engineer on the Nook team. It isn't possible for the device software to change text of books. Most likely the author or conversion service took the Kindle edition, ran a search and replace for 'Kindle' and there you have it.
