If it's 4 0.00000000001/0.00000000001, things may be different. But since it's just 4 0.1/0.1, why not just use round()? With such small error, round() should produce 4.

I don't even think medicines should be patented. I think government should fund the R&D and then let all companies manufacture and sell it at a low price. Then it is even better than medicare. The government can sell the production meth

1. Big companies should be less well protected, or there may be a monopoly. Intel is innovative, but it has to tolerate AMD using its instruction set. Big companies is much more dangerous than small ones, you don't want them to dominate you

Elm is actually self-hosting by your standard. If the average IQ of the world population is higher, I think Haskell will become a widely-used language. Haskell is a language much more than its syntax, and takes a lot of effort to learn.

I think putting the burden onto the applicant makes a lot of sense. The applicant is the one with the more information concerning the patent, why shouldn't he explain the obviousness first? The applicant should talk more about the decisions

I think it is very reasonable, if the author also writes the documentation, which is the only way to get to know about the software.

I agree. Users are always right, even for open source software. Requiring the users to change their way is an easy way to lose them. A major player like Facebook willing to use Git is a good thing, as it may help spread the software in comp

Stop talking about "natural" sleep cycles or "natural" diet. Stop talking about how the homo sapiens evolved into sleeping or eating like this. I personally think our unwillingness to move away from our evolved instincts is the reason why w

I don't know if it counts as invention, but surely we've seen such technologies in science fiction movies like the Minority Report. The idea must have existed before.

Actually, what if there is a hell only because so many people believe so and we go to hell because they believe/hope so? Would they stop believing so other people could enjoy a more peaceful afterlife?

Perhaps C++ will finally become a scripting language. So you don't get to complain about the compilation cost. Seriously, I think it's too much trick to do meta-programming in the language. If meta-programming should be allowed, it should b

Microblogging sites in China are thriving, much better than SNS sites (IMHO). I often come to wonder why FB is worth so much more than twitter. Could this actually be one of the cases when copycats win over the original?

It totally makes sense. You should also be able to choose to use more than one socket (but not so many as there are clients), in case you still want to take advantage of all the cores available.

If I have to iterate over all the objects in a container and erase some of them, I always push the keys/indices into another deque first. And then the deque is iterated through to remove those items from the original set (in the reverse ord

I think the logic is sound. Miracles don't always happen, and anything miraculous deserves at least some suspicion. The price of real estate has tripled, while the GDP hasn't. Clearly, not all the people can afford the price.
