For someone calling fish 'pretty great' I sure see a lot of angst towards fish in that config file! Thanks for the post though.

I wrote a library for Go that makes functional programming with channels-as-streams very comfortable, for me[1]. There is a problem with needing to box and unbox variables from the 'empty interface{}' type all the time but it'

This is a pretty good example of the sort of social interaction that makes me want to stay away from social media platforms. It's not a fear of saying the wrong thing and getting fired... it's the fear of saying just about anythin

What I find most sobering about this is that it sounds like were it not for the defacement 6 days after the hack , no one would ever have been any the wiser. I know that DB-level and web-server-level intrusion detection systems exist - c

It's good to see Twilio post this! That being said - yeah, I really am concerned that Twilio is using an ephemeral database to store such important data. Why not simply use Postgres? Is Twilio really making so many transactions per sec

Just curious, what don't you like about the Remote app for Apple TV? I purchased an Apple TV over a Roku just because of how slick the Remote app was, personally, along with the good-but-not-great* airplay functionality you get with an

I used to work for a biotech company that shared a somewhat similar field to 23andme, although aimed at prenatal diagnostics. We were doing the exact thing that #3 on their list claims. While I am not a scientist, my understanding is that t

I'm actually hacking right now on a personal project that might be relevant. It eschews the 'sync' metaphor and focuses more on the 'share' metaphor, though - it is not so useful for files that change frequently, bu

I was just thinking how close we must be to "A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer" (see: "Diamond Age", by Neal Stephenson, referenced by me and seiji here. GREAT book.)

I actually have used RescueTime. I would have probably raised the same concern except that I was using it, at the time, at the encouragement of my employer. If they were fine with it, then so was I. I haven't continued to use it, but t

I wrote a similarly-themed (although much less complete and much less useful) package for Go called 'Proto' which essentially sidesteps the static typechecker by mapping the 'base useful type' to `interface{}`, which is

A really cool idea, but probably not useable by anyone working on proprietary software, I'm afraid. I'd love to use it as a productivity app - particularly if you could segment the data based on the active git branch - but transmi

Agreed. Even if it's true, I hope that the HN community can all agree that comments like this reflect poorly on us -- lets certainly not reward them.

Interesting! We do use librarian-puppet but we do not use apache. It's possible that we just managed to step around that land mind essentially by accident. Did you run in to any other issues?

I have never configured an IIS server. Do you find that the programmatic configuration API is helpful? I rarely find httpd.conf or nginx.conf to be difficult to manage, but it's possible that we're missing out on a good thing in t

Thanks for the helpful comment and also for Ansible in general! I'll take a good, close look at it - you might find me in your IRC channel sometime soon as I poke around Ansible, trying to see if it might be a good idea to port things
