I've been using Mac for 9 years consistently and it still is unpleasant. It's a bad system because it doesn't account for web applications being independent applications, as mentioned above. I'm hopeful for the Web Apps

I'd say look at government, but that is rarely remote. You can look at hourly contracts that aren't through the body shops like TCS, and some of those are still remote. Otherwise, I'd say you're still in a position that

Oh, I'm another person that command-~ doesn't work for. I mean, it can work, but let's say I am working with three apps - two of them are web apps in their own chrome windows, three more chrome windows that I don't care

What, then, is a service other than a model without a database table?

Until the moment that models have to call other models to get anything done. The problem is that the models often get too tied with the database implementation. Then, you're separating business logic that doesn't make sense to sep

I think it's worth actually looking at the link. The four freedoms and copyleft are explicitly in there and the copyleft licenses are at the top. He's arguing that the messaging is messy, not the message.

I’m a $boss. I’d say that is different. I want you to be asking about the strategy I have and incorporating ways to achieve that. I have that out in the open! I usually want to know if you think my strategy won’t work and why, and how to ma

As long as they're willing to pay moderators above minimum wage for that jurisdiction. (And just wait until people are complaining about moderators who have no knowledge of the topic and do not interact with the communities.)

Wait... this is how adult companies act? Adult companies do not depend on free labor to provide value. (I'm speaking about moderation in particular, but also the creation of wikis and the community management.) Personally, I can't

It mostly wasn't the rank and file users making the most noise. It was the moderators who rely on the API for a series of tools (including third party tools like Apollo) to moderate the larger subreddits. For me, it absolutely was a si

I mean, why not create your own subreddit then? All you have to do is create it with a small group of people to see it, post good articles, and keep a 24/7 watch to kill the comment and post spam going to viagra and obvious trash.

Stockfish eval is often misleading because some positions are very sharp - if you see mate in 15 you’re ahead, but otherwise you’re far behind at the most pathological case.

Large, stable, boring companies lay people off as well. Sadly, there's no escape anymore in the United States. I think it is important to keep a reserve in cash because layoffs are just a part of reality at this point.

Would you like to talk about some of the absurd contrarian opinions that we see from the field of software engineering or venture capital? How about Linus Pauling and Vitamin C? The further one moves away from their field, the more we shoul

If it's open source, that's fine. What you have to ask, however, is who is buying your product? How much are they paying? What additional needs would be needed for them to pay you?

This is very enforceable for the smaller group of actually profitable streamers. They're trying to make it more difficult for people to reduce their dependence on twitch.

Every time you upset your user base, you give them an opportunity to leave. Or, you turn your advocates into neutral. They stop being willing to do free work for you. Reddit is dependent on free work. Moderators are a significant portion of

I don't understand this. If you build a system for resilience, it should not take significant effort to maintain. You should be able to keep the lights on with 10-20% of the engineering team. The rest is growth. Growth may be making th

Logan is one of the easiest. You just take the bus to the MBTA stop or the free silver line into Seaport. The convenient public transportation is the reason I rarely take cabs or rideshare to or from Logan.

That is true today, but Linux didn’t have that much of a lead. People chose to develop for Linux instead when the future was in doubt, and that was largely due to the pragmatism of Linus.

The researchers get none of the money. Quick tip: You can often email a researcher and they will sometimes send a pre-print version of the article if you don't have access. Nobody is making money off this. Other than public scholars, a
