Good to see BOINC floating by on HN today. I've recently been dusting off some old Mac minis that run Leopard or Snow Leopard (but no newer OS versions), and was pleasantly surprised that older BOINC versions still function! However, n

+1 for StoryWorth — a few members of my family have really taken to it, and one answers the questions each week. My sister and I are learning fun stories about our parents which would probably never otherwise come up in conversation with th

Curious if the HN community has any recommendations for identity-theft monitoring services? Each time this happens, the breached company partners with some firm or another to offer "one free year of identity monitoring" or somesuc

We made http://domai.nr/ to help with this process as well. Naming things is hard, and finding .coms for them is harder.

Two friends and I run http://domai.nr/ on the side. We launched it 5+ years ago (here on HN, I think), and it's generated revenue ever since. Our first goal for it was, "can it cover the cost of its own domain?&qu

We've cobbled together a rough equivalent of this at work, using a Mac Mini + Hangouts, a Logitech video camera, a wall-mounted flatscreen, and a USB speakerphone. The pieces all work as expected, but it's clunky and needs to be b

Similar thing happened to me — it locked up when it was almost to the end, so I killed and restarted the process, and it finished successfully. Thanks, Mihai!

I hope they post the video of Carl's memorial speech somewhere online, it was passionate and inspiring! Text on a webpage conveys his message, but everyone jumped up applauding when he finished speaking tonight in SF.

I've been to a number of 10-day Goenka courses, and agree that in the videos he occasionally drifts off to questionably relevant territory. However, the evening talks also point out that we should mentally "leave aside" any of the intellect

Vipassana is a great practice — in my experience, finding other people to sit with consistently has helped better than anything else. Like weekly or even a few times per week.

And another 12-year meditator here — my first course was in 2001, in Massachusetts. My practice has definitely had its ups and downs over the years. In my experience the most significant contributor to a strong, consistent practice is to re

(I'm one of Domainr's co-founders, and for the record, we absolutely do not, and will never, do anything ethically ambiguous like front-running.) We hear of similar issues from time to time, and each time we've investigated, they've ended u

(I'm one of Domainr's creators) Nice work! We've been meaning to build out a Domainr CLI but haven't been able to make time for it -- we were hoping that somebody might put one together via the API.
