I use a rMBP with no ethernet port every day at work. I use WiFi. I also don't use any annoying dock. My Wife uses a dock with her rMBP and she likes hers. Your work situation sounds miserable but it's not mandatory.

That moment was absolutely the ultimate in Apple Reality Distortion Field in recent years, but this article is also over the top hyperbole. The reality is the audio jack did take a significant amount of internal volume on the phone, and the

Everyone keeps making this point but I don't get it? It's not like the AirPods are required. They are including Lightning EarPods and an adapter in the box for $0.

I doubt they spend that much on it and it gives SMB's an additional cost savings by going with Macs; if they don't NEED office the Apple iWork software can be good enough to serve their purposes.

You know it's not very helpful to come into a thread about thing X and say "Well I bought thing Y and I like it a lot." This thread is about thing X. (This goes for people coming into an iPhone thread to endorse their Android

I feel like we put too much weight on the idea of detecting intelligence in children. I always did really well on all tests as a kid, getting 100% on assessment tests and crap. But I'm a total dumbass. Just look at my comment history.

Yeah I get that but maybe it'd be worth checking in with the repo owner before submitting it or something? I dunno. I don't see any easy solution.

Maybe we need a rule about submitting other people's projects? Even though I don't mind if people check out/use my public GitHub repos I would not want them submitted on HN by someone else.

Microsoft denied the RROD for a long time and then made people jump through a lot of hoops in order to get a replacement or repair. Also RROD was far more widespread (in terms of % of devices affected) than this issue appears to be. Most pe

The point of the article seemed to be that this is a very widespread problem, and I was refuting that point. If you look at it from the percentage of devices sold, it doesn't seem to be widespread at all. If you want to take the view t

Read my comment again, I was positing perhaps the author of the article talked to 100 repair shops. Yes, there are certainly more repair shops than that worldwide. I was just drawing a line from what data the article has to what we could gu

I'd say 80% is already a vast majority? But ok if you think 20% is too high we can go crazy and say half a million phones have this problem each year. That's still less than 4% of the 6S/6S Plus sold opening weekend . Let al

This is pretty breathless reporting for iFixit. We can all draw whatever conclusions we want based on anecdotes. For example, I know a lot of people who have iPhone 6 and 6S phones and none of them have had this problem. But let's look
