Does anyone know if the same applies to Pandora? I've used the paid version for two years now, and would like to believe the artists are getting paid.

You raise some good points. And there are some inaccuracies, most glaring being that Comcast isn't owned by GE. But I wouldn't want to lose sight of the message here. Which is that the options presented to your TV or radio are limited and

Some resources: peepcode.com (not free) youtube or itunes videos of cs classes, e.g. Stanford's CS106X For me what's worked best has been to read a book or two on a language and immediately start using the language on a problem I hope to so

I'll just chime in, albeit two days late, to say that: Africa is a continent of 53 (54?) countries, experiences vary.

Another point worth mentioning. If you feel you know what the hacker community looks like, you may fail to correctly recognize hackers that look or act different.

I think you're making the point that the group of attendees to a Rails conference is representative of the population of Rails developers. That's not necessarily true.

"Black people in this country live in a separate America. They have their own culture..." It's as if your knowledge of black people comes solely from watching rap videos and the NBA.

We all have our biases. Some of us try to pretend we don't but the truth is we all do. For an individual to overcome his/her biases, that person first has to accept they exist in the first place.

Depending on what you code, coding for developers could be like providing ammo to the army, or like building robots for the army, sometimes for free. Except you actually create a cascading effect as better software tools lead to better sof

If, by your reasoning, the company is paramount, then all parties should pitch in. Founders, investors, all employees. Why should these employees be responsible for saving the company from a mess caused by the executive team and investors?

I felt the same way too. But I still see it as an interesting post that raised valid points. Hank, if you read this, you should try easing off on unnecessary quarrels.

There's a video of tech discussion at Stanford with Vivek Wadhwa recalling how hard it was for the first set of Indian entrepreneurs to raise money in the Valley. This was back in the 80's, I think, when you didn't have as many (or any) In

I think sports is 'mostly' a meritocracy. You don't just walk into the first team of any of the top European leagues. And Beckham fully deserved his place in all the teams he's played in so far - just ask Capello. Capello initially refus

You could make the same argument about most languages - programmers have more viable languages to choose from than they did just 10 years ago. But even on this count, C's share of the 'market' is increasing or stable, and not decreasing. M

Going purely on the number of processors that run exclusively on C code, I'd say more new C is being written, and for good reason. I'm referring to the firmware running on the dozens of devices you have in your home, the ones you don't see

Solving a problem that is currently a pain of yours is usually a good motivator. If you're lucky and there's enough of a market (others feel the same pain too) then it may be worth exploring further. On building around future tech, you pro

Competitors may come, but they'll likely have to overcome a higher barrier (to entry) than if your problem required a trivial solution. Think medical devices vs iphone apps. Problems in the medical field are not secret. But they typically
