Typed assembly is a thing - it’s mainly to ensure the compiler itself is correct, but it does give stronger guarantees. I think Frank Pfenning at CMU has written a language that’s dependently typed all the way down - so it’s IR and assembly

Wouldn’t you be paying sales/service tax on Google ads, and by not paying for its own ads Google circumvented those taxes giving itself a competitive advantage?

That’s exactly why saying our projects get recognition “just because we’re paying for a degree” is insulting. Getting into these research groups and receiving funding is usually pretty competitive, and we spend a lot of time on these projec

>Why should a person who pays a university to give them a project to do get a degree and recognition I have a few issues with this comment. I am a graduate student and while I personally work on the theory side, I have labmates involved

Yeah, I’m pretty sure a lot of IRA funding came out of Boston. Turns out there were children and grandchildren of potato famine refugees who were still pretty pissed - who’d have thunk it.

Someone else pointed out that Apple announced the deprecation of AFP 4 years ago - it’s a bit unfair to say Apple caught you off guard here.

As someone else pointed out, the deprecation of AFP was announced over 4 years ago, 8 years into this servers lifespan (it’s a 2006 model, right?). This was a problem their network administrator should have been aware of for 4 years, that’s

Well if you’re not aware of an artists politics you can easily find yourself consuming propaganda. It’d be foolish not to exercise any restraint in that regard.

Should viewers have decided whether or not Weinstein should still be producing movies? There’s clearly a point where the press around someone becomes too toxic to have a close business relationship with them.

The market did handle it, there was enough bad press for YouTube so that it was no longer a good business decision to continue their partnership with Paul.

I’m a category theorist so I’m going to nitpick - the claim that all concrete mathematical objects are specific sets is either tautological (a concrete category is literally one where each object has an underlying set) or untrue (I can thin

Yeah the entire NCAA system is basically funded by young men playing basketball and football, a few who are objectively being cheated out of millions of dollars (because the ncaa lobbies the nfl and nba to have minimum age requirements).

I don’t know a why you’re getting downvoted. I find, at least in my department, international students don’t get the same opportunities Canadians do. There’s definitely an archetype of a CS professor who does “interdisciplinary research” wi

How does this work with packages like TiKZ or TiKZ-CD? Right now I’m perfectly happy with auctex and aquamacs, but if this did real-time tikz rendering then I would be sold.

I don’t know why it has to be one of the other, university generally isn’t vocational training. I know lots of people who went to university and then did a trades program, I don’t think any of them really regret getting their degree. Of cou

Eh, everyone but the set theorists ignores the set theorists at this point. I think some exciting things happened in the 60's with forcing, but a lot of the subsequent developments seem pretty contrived.
