It is my sincere hope that fear of amazon leads to the decline in DRM on ebooks, much as a fear of Apple lead to the decline of DRM for music. I'm not sure all the ingredients are there though...

This would be awesome, if there was video. Seriously, I want to see video of the assembly. Somewhere I saw video from the same project of a swarm of the bots doing coordinated movements and it was pretty cool and I've been waiting for vide

What's your point, re profitability? Are highway systems and surface roads "profitable?" And the airline industry (as opposed to the aircraft industry) has generated little or no wealth in more than half a century of existence.

You aren't taking into consideration the vast amounts of concrete and steel that go into a nuclear plant, nor the mining and refining of the uranium, nor, for that matter, it's disposal. Further, I think you are overestimating the impact of

For one thing, autonomous cars can, theoretically, increase the practical carrying capacity of individual roadways, they can also better utilize the capacity of road networks by routing vehicles to underutilized roads. This would mitigate t

An autonomous single seater comes to you where you need it. A single seat, non-autonomous rental car doesn't come to you unless there is a driver, or a delivery vehicle with a driver, to bring it to you. The economics aren't going to be th

I think you are right, there will be a tipping point at some stage. For something that is so thoroughly baked into the American way of life, I think 20 years isnt a bad estimate. I'm not totally up on autonomous car tech, but while very pr

Yup, it was interesting reading some of the discussions about the design of the device. PCB cost was a major consideration. They aren't exposing some of the I/O pins on the SoC because it would require a more expensive PCB to do so.

They could have achieved higher density, but it would have been more expensive. The density is in service of low costs, so that wouldn't have made much sense.

You seem to have fixated on the portability. Understandable, but I don't think that is the point. The point is to build a cheap but capable device that kids can hack on. The portability is a byproduct of that focus on cost: the fewer pa

Why aren't they doing those things? Perhaps because that isn't what they set out to do: We plan to develop, manufacture and distribute an ultra-low-cost computer, for use in teaching computer programming to children. We expect this comput
