I couldn’t disagree more with this. A meaningful connection to your output is important, but most jobs are bullshit and won’t satisfy that need. Leaving a cushy job to pursue that is rarely a good idea. The grandparent post is right - get a

I’m a developer at Morgan Stanley. The layoffs were largely targeted at technology and operations in New York and London, including a significant chunk of middle management. Word is that there could be more in January/March targeting l

I thought capitalism was all about rational self-interest. If there’s no government interference, what incentive is there to behave ethically? As far as I can tell the answer is “none” and that’s what we see playing out over and over again.

Given the extensive market manipulation and liquidation of margin traders in cryptocurrency, probably nothing that can be shared publicly.

There is a point where the combination of heat and humidity means that humans can’t cool themselves adequately and die, even in the shade. This is happening more and more, and seems likely to start happening in places like eastern China and

What do you think happens if we don’t dramatically reduce our carbon emissions in a very short period of time? I’ll give you a hint: it doesn’t resemble anything like the “advancement of humankind.”

Nearly all trading volume occurs in Tether, compared to dollars or other stablecoins. Tether by their own admission says that they're only 74% backed by "cash and cash equivalents." https://www.bloomberg.com/n

Can you explain where I’m going wrong? The evidence of Tether not being backed 1:1 is pretty overwhelming by now and Bitfinex has printed nearly two billion new ones since the start of April.

I don’t see how that matters when cryptocurrency exchanges are able to print money and liquidate leveraged positions at will (Bitfinex/Binance/Bitmex + Tether). Couple that with miner fees of over 10 million dollars worth of crypt

This type of gambling is already risky on liquid, highly regulated markets. But doing it on heavily manipulated markets that are currently being propped up by billions of fake dollars is just baffling.

Bitcoin mining uses as much energy as the nation of Denmark. Each transaction confirmation uses as much energy as nine American households do in an entire day. What “deep knowledge” am I lacking here?

I think this is the gist of it. Most of the arguments I’ve seen against unionization seem to appeal to the inflated egos that a lot of developers possess.

"Yes, it is an energy hog. There are a lot of industries that consume more energy than bitcoin mining." So what? That doesn't make its energy use any less unethical. Especially since the only "value" that Bitcoin pr
